Electrical Gremlins

Hi there, I'd like to start by saying this is a great site.

I've got a '91 W250 and it keeps blowing turn signal and running light fuses. I'm not very good with electrical stuff but I checked the light sockets, found one with corrosion so I replaced that. Didn't help. Crawled underneath and checked for bad or broken wires. Couldn't find anything.

My question is-is there any spot on these trucks that is prone to be a problem? I'm open to suggestions on how to remedy this. Thanks.

I have a 1990, and I haven't had your particular problem, but I did have some taillight issues.



I would check, if you have trailer wiring in the back. If so, check if it was spliced in or if someone did it with plugs (much cleaner). Mine was spliced in, and I kept losing my turn signal and running light on the right rear.



Also, if your truck is old, watch your headlight switch. Mine failed at about 200k. This is a bigger problem with running lights.



Check inside the rear quarters, where the wiring comes up for the taillights.



If you have any accessory guages, check the lighting in those.

Yep it is old being a 91 but so is my 93. And Eddie is right about the light switch. I think the switch is the same unit used on a half ton without all the lights that Dodge added over the years. I have had trouble with all my trucks regarding the switch. I now have a seperate circuit for the trailer. I have read that there are newer style lights which use less amperage.
