Eng noise/ 1st gen vs 2nd gen

I went on a 350 mile drive today in my friends 91 4x4 and I could not hear any engine clatter inside while traveling at any speed. My 96 was a lot louder and as I have been looking for another truck all the 12 valves I have driven have also been quite noticable although not excessively so but definately louder than the 1st gen truck. Is it the P pump that makes the noise?

Yeah, it is the P7100 that is making a different sound. The old VE pumps were very quiet. I have listened to just the P7100 run on a flowbench, and man, is that sucker noisy. 90% of all the underhood noise you hear on the truck is from that pump. The injectors make a cool pop-off sound too. #ad

Evans right. You gotta hear that sucker on the stand. The mech. wears shoot-un ear cups in a sound proof room. But I LOVE it. #ad
