Where is the camshaft position sensor?

I was just driving into my driveway when I noticed that I had an engine warning light, yellow in the upper left part of the instrument panel. I did that little trick of turning the key on 3 times to see what code ,if any, would be displayed in the odometer. Much to my surprise, I got a "P0341" code, which is a "Camshaft Position Sensor Performance/Rationality" message. Anybody got any idea what that means, in simple English, and I was wondering if I should have it towed to the dealer instead of driving there, which is about 6 miles. I don't know what that code is or what happened, but it sure don't sound like something that I am going to be happy with. I have less than 7000 miles on the truck, sure hope this is not an Oman for the future. Perhaps the Grinch is giving me an early Christmas present. Thanks for the help----

I'd drive it to the dealer if it runs. If you're gonna tow it and hope that the dealer picks up the tab, you may want to give them a call first. They'll probably tell you to drive it too.

eronious cam sensor

From a Reliable sorce dodge is not flashing any 03/04 trcks unitl after 1st of the year. Problem with one flash over wrighting another causing original symptoms to reappear. I would how ever still take to the dealer.

According to the powertrain diagnostics manual, P0341 is set when "the ECM no longer detects a signal from the Engine Position Sensor". It then goes into an extensive 11-step troubleshooting routine to determine whether it's wiring, sensor, or ECM. I would take it to the dealer, but if it's running I'd say you've got an intermittent condition and it's okay to drive to the dealer.

my 03 did threw this code one day when i tryed to start it,, it cranked for an abnormally long time (twice as long) before it started and threw the code instanly ,well check eng light and then i checked for code. took to dealer had them clear it and it never did it again in 34k mi. tech saidif the two sensors take too long to read each other it will throw this code.

i would have them check it / clear and see if it comes back.

Engine code, p0341

Most likely a sensor error on cam position. there is redundancy in the cam and crank sensor arrangement on MY03 and beyond which gives "limp home" capability even if one sensor goes bad.

I want to say that there is no limp home mode on mine.

The thing has died on me 10 times today. the code is the camshaft position sensor. I almost hit a car head on cause it died as I was going around a bend. I downshifted for the curve and the engine just went flat. It does restart, but I don't like suprises.

Guess the dealer is the next stop

My 0341 problem was solved, at least for the time being, turned out to be a wiring harness. The dealer/Dodge replaced the engine wiring harness, took four days, but then one day was because they got the wrong harness for the engine (an here I thought all Cummins HO diesels were the same), but they got it changed out and so far, with about 500 miles on it, it has not thrown a repeat 0341 code, knock on wood.

EZMack-what codes are u throwing? Check out my post in the 3rd gen-no drivetrain. Same symptoms-they had to replace the injector pump because the smallblack solonoid on the back of the injector pump is not replaceable and thats what was wrong with mine.
