I just discovered the same problem with my 2006 Mega Cab I discovered 4 inches hanging from the fan clutch and the rest still in the metal seath hanging down from the harness. I have not see any damage to the fan or the radiator but willl look closer. I will probably take it to the dealer for repair as I dont want to have it happen again

I asked the dealer to check the motor mount and they said they were fine, but since then the dealer replaced the fan clutch 3 months after the 1st one now one month later I have it in Orange County Diesel to install new DDP Injectors and a new Fluid Damper as I have had a rough idle for over a year and the dealer has said it needs new injectors so here we are after the install I still have the rough idle and am having to replace the third Fan Clutch because of nicked wires.

The fan is spinning lightly all the time so I don't know that a switch would do much good. It would also through a code.

If everything is assembled perfectly (which Dodge has failed to do many times) it normally holds up well.

We need some to find out the wire to put a toggle switch inline to cut the fan motor off when we cross a water hazard then turn right back on. This would help with the most cause of this problem and that is when the water pushes the fan into the blades. just my 2 cents

That would turn on a cel

I know this is a old thread now just wanted to say on my 2007 5.9, it still hasn't thrown a cel even with the wires shear'ed off the fan clutch, I did save the plastic fan, and it doesn't overheat unless towing a trailer in stop and go traffic.

Having recently replaced my fan clutch (after 8yrs of throwing a rationality code ) it finally stopped cooling sufficiently for the A/C condensor pressure at idle. All else was fine. New OEM clutch took 3weeks to get (national back order wth). Works perfectly now.....

All this to say that the system of fastening the wire into the shroud is crucial that everything is in place correctly, and no short cuts OR the possiblility of sucking it into the fan is very real. The pieces of fan shroud use plastic push pins that lock everything into place correctly. If these are not reinstalled(because the broke or too much of a PITA then the result will be allowing the wire enough movement to get pulled by the fan
