My engine is currently running rougher than it was a few thousand miles ago. I noticed it on a trip while pulling my trailer. I pushed the engine harder than ever on this trip, both up hill and down. I didn't over-rev it to my knowledge. I mostly notice it when at idle. FYI: The fuel filter only has 6000 miles on it. I hate to take it in for service. Any ideas?

Even with 6k on the filter it might be a good place to start. How far was the trip? DFid you fill up at a station that may have had questionable fule?

I would think the power would be down as well. Hmm, when you say "rough" is it like when the ac compressor kicks on and there is more of a load on it??

It varies from day to day. Today it was as smooth as I could expect or hope out of the cummins. Go figure. It reminds me of fouled spark plugs but I know that cant be the case. If I get the opportunity this weekend I'll change the fuel filter.

i to seem to have a rough idle while hauling arround my camper. i have reciently changed the fuel filter. it may be just a bad batch of very expensive diesel @$2. 45! a gal you'd think it would work better or something. i will see after the next fill up.

ps you might try draining your fuel pumps watter seporator. i do this about every 3 fill up. i heard too many horror stories of rusted injectors and rails...

This is a bit off the subject, but what is the best way to change the fuel filter on my 03 HO. I need to do it soon.

Thanks

it is very simple just rotate the plastic nut and lift out the filter. the replacement just snaps in. replace the o ring with a new one. take 10 min tops dealler wanted 80 bucks. . oh by the way don't forget to drain your filter first.....

Hey guys If you have'nt noticed I bet you all run Edge EZ... Mine idles rough too... Edge said that with the EZ it may or may not act this way. . some do some don't. . call edge they will tell you...

Mine idles rough sometimes. Some times it is smooth as a babys butt and sometimes you can't see clealy in the mirrors, no its not the a/c.

20k mi on it now but started about 5k mi ago, oil change and f/f did not help.

I' ve got 8600 on the clock -- here's my experience... .

After a fillup engine semed to become very unresponsive in mid- range and upper RPM'S. I suspected fuel ( either winter grade because the price had gotten so high to the vendors or just a bad batch) so I ran the tank down to fumes. 81 miles after DTE showed 0-- Needle was sitting on the peg! Filled up with 32. 8 gal-- Mine holds 34. No improvement-- Changed fuel and air filter-- slight improvement--- Went to my tech--- White smoke on cold start up/ slightly rough idle/ sluggish mid range performance... .

He punched into DC tech ctr and, bingo- there is a TSB with my EXACT symptoms. It is a software/ program issue. So he downloads the "fix" into his plug in unit, transfers to my truck, downloads-- program accepted--- and off we go for a test drive.

The kick you in the britches acceleration is back. It comes on @ about 1600 RPM's and JUMPS to 29/3K in 2nd and 3rd. Turns 2900 VERY quickly in 4th and we're breaking the highest speed limit in the country @2800 RPM'S in 5th, and turned 110mph when I got out of it in 6th.

I went home and had an adult beverage-- happy w/ my CTD again.

TWO days later the SAME problem is back:mad: Monday I'll take it back!

I'm beginning to think that "drive by wire" might not be a good plan--
