2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Engine light

I was driving my husbands pickup and the check engine light cameon. all of the gauges looked okay. ran okay. got it home. does anyone know how to check for codes? Thanks.

Cycle key on and off three times. Code will show up in odometer.

Key trick won`t work on a `98. Take it to Auto Zone, they should read it for free.
