Have to agree with klenger, If your'e ever in Denver, Broadway Dodge is the one. First class all the way. Been dealin' with them for years. If you're looking to buy, be sure to talk to Jim Shadrick. No brain damage

I think I'd want another truck with it being THAT new. It it had 4000 miles thats a different story. BUT 486 miles. I'd want another truck. I was at a Nissan/Datsun dealer 14 years. Only saw a few engine failures but the few that were THAT low a mileage the DEALER was trying to get them another vehicle ASAP without even being asked. Of course that was 10 years ago. But if a 300zx Turbo or a Maxima ruined a motor that quick they handed out transportation and started coming up with another auto asap.

I would also try for a new truck. The dealer shouldn't even bat an eye at that request. My transmission had to come out for an engine oil leak at 90 miles and my dealer never even flinched. He immediately started trying to find another truck, but couldn't find an identicle one, so I opted to keep the one I wanted to begin with. Problem is fixed. I just want a new truck to be new and not repaired. That's just me though. I'm obsessive compulsive. I'm gald you have a good dealer. I have nothing but praise for John Elway Dodge Southwest in Littleton, CO by the way.

I agree on the "new truck" bit - who wants a "new" truck that already has had to have the engine replaced!

What MIGHT get screwed up in the swapout that will come back to haunt you later on down the road - and warranty coverage isn't all that satisfying when yer left standing at the roadside waiting for a tow truck...

Not exactly rocket science to swap the motors.

And CERTAINLY not very many service techs that even come CLOSE to being rocket scientists, either ! ;) :D :D

But they frequently ARE good at scratching, denting, tearing and generally leaving their marks on what they work on... ;)

YUP!!! Having any work done at the dealer is scary, but an engine swap is well beyond the ability of most dealer mechanics. Yea the truck will run when you pick it up, but there will be problems from poor work forever.

My apologies to the few real mechanics left, but for the most part the good mechanics work outside dealerships. IMO

I would push like hell for a new truck

Good luck--

Try for the new truck... ... but if that doesn't work... . sounds like it's a pretty done deal wioth the new motor..... but I'd be frosted as you are!!!!

Well I have had good techs that you never would find a misplaced washer after the job. Thats NOT the point. Numbers won't match, the inconvenience etc.

I'll throw my two cents worth in on this somewhat duplexed thread.

1. I agree with the notion of requesting a new truck. There is no telling what gremlins will begin to surface further on down the road. Besides, it's supposed to be a "new" truck!

2. I think one key to getting good service with dealers, especially when seeking warranty, is to already be known to them as a maintenance customer. Letting them do some preventative maintenance also lets you evaluate their ability to do the job. If they screw up something simple you might not want to take a warranty claim to them.

If it were a transmission or transfer case or such replaced under warranty, are they the same as F*** in that you would get a remanufactured unit instead of a new unit ?..... I suspect so. Which brings us to the question... an engine... would it be new... . or remanufactured ??...

Go for the new truck !!

Rebuilt

I would assume that there are not a bunch of remanufactured 600's laying around.

I would guess he will get a new motor out of the box.

I would certainly think a new complete motor would be installed. The issue for me would be, like mentioned earlier, scratches, dents, and such. A new truck is in order in this case. It's the case of not having the original engine in it that would bug me, in addition to the possibility of damage.

Dealer just called that my engine arrived, I made a quick trip to dealer and it is a complete crate engine. they already have body off and bad engine ready to come out. They are taking there time with it and talking to the mechanic and he seems to know what he is talking about.

The reason I did not try for a new truck is that I already have my bed sprayed and a new Super Glide 5th wheel hitch already installed so I guess I will have to drive this Chev P/U a couple of more days, will keep you posted on out come and if there is any problems.

Good luck with your install, I'll bet everything will be to your satisfaction. It is still a new truck and even a little newer that it was before.
