Engine miss SOLVED!! pump had magor failure

I removed fuel injection pump, took to pump shop and they found the results, a twisted pump shaft, bad housing and head, to the tune of $1600.



I did some calling around and found reman pumps in the 800 +- range, I made two attempts for each shop to back out of the price quoted, because my core is junk according to the pump shop that disasembled my pump.



Who has had success finding rebuilt pumps, and where? Thanks Jon

http://www.piersdiesel.com/DodgeUSPrice.htm. According to PDR's site, say a brand new VE is $1375. New sounds to me no core needed. I'd also give www.scheiddiesel.com a call about price, they are also closer to you, less on shipping. Your pump shop probly tore up your pump beyond repair, which is why they say its junk now LOL. I'd tell them to put it back together the way it came in there.

While I couldn't possibly know anything about your pump, what I do know make me lean toward the following from bgilbert.

I just don't see how anything like a bent shaft would affect only one cylinder. On the price of repair, I have bought a whole truck for a thousand and it had a good pump.

Scrolling through the TDR classified and saw a guy in Alabama listing a 'new' ve for 900. Item 148 I think.

Although I'm certainly not a pump expert, I tend to agree. I just looked at the pics in the VE manual I have and I would at least challenge the pump shop and make them first show me what shaft is bent, then prove how it could have happened without total destruction of the innards.
