Yep, I run full synthetic 15w-40 in my '18. My '22 will get full synthetic 5w-40.

My 22 will get 5w40 synthetic come Monday morning, what's surprises me is when I mention to other 19+ 6.7 owners what I'm going to us, I get told 5w40 should only used if your going to be in temps below zero for long periods of time, I tell them my old 06 ran for over 115K on 5w oil in the hot Midwest summers without problems, I still get told how I'm wasting $$$, that there is no reason to use fancy synthetic oil as its a waste of $$ an that Dino oil has worked well for millions of miles in Cummins engines. I was also surprised some think $18.33 for DBL/ELF 7349 filter is to much because other brands of filters are cheaper, they don't get that DBL/ELF filters a much better then what the dealer will use....

06 on 5W??? Really don't get that. 115k on most any oil in an 06 is not enough time to hurt that engine. Only way to tell is tearing down the engine of maybe a sample to Blackstone.

Not sure why anyone would run 5-40 in a 19 up instead of 10-30.

sag2 I would like your opinion on this please!

Better cold flow properties, better protection under load, and better oil stability under load.

Only real advantage to 10w-30 is the fuel economy might be slightly better.

Why? It’s the published cold weather oil, and acceptable for all weather.

I don’t understand your confusion on the oils for these engines.

5w-40 has been the all weather oil for a long time and has been recommended for all CR applications.

I prefer a full synthetic 15w-40 over a 5w-40, but that’s not an option on 19+.

I had UOA from Amsoil for the first 5 years of running 5w oil, based on all of the UOA's I saw no need to keep doing them at every oil change, the reason I started was because I wasn't sure how the Midwest heat and humidity along with sub zero temps would affect the oil & engine, it was my first time using 5w oil in a Diesel engine...

OMG ... this is an endless topic.. quality oil, quality filter and document it in case you EVER need it for warrantee I had to do this once on a VW.. every single oil change I had to prove.. it was stupid yes but I had the documentation and warrantee was approved 17k worth.

Yes, they are mostly just quoting a fact. Where they go wrong, is pushing their agenda. We have a choice here and can use either or. Synthetic is about twice the money. However, if you only change oil once a year it is not that big a deal. For me, the difference in cost is substantial. Most of my Cummins trucks are older, so oil changes about every 5k miles. About 900k miles on the three, plus my off highway vehicles (4).

My guess is synthetic users also go to Starbucks:D I am fine with plain ole cafe coffee:p

I always figured Red Bull and all those energy drinks are also synthetic:eek:

Quite often benefits on paper don’t materialize into real world gains, and if they do it’s not as big of gain as advertised.

Plenty of reasons to run synthetic, and plenty of reasons why you don’t need to.

I have a host of reasons I run it, but I also realize that these motors don’t have lubrication issues and will go forever on the cheapest oil that meets the spec.

It does make the decision easy when the all weather oil is only offered as a synthetic. :p

I’m not a Starbucks drinker thou :D or energy drinks, just black coffee and beer/whiskey.

So what, the owners manual list 5w-40 as being acceptable for All Temps, that means even if you never see a temp below zero and if I'm wrong I'm sure I will be corrected shortly.

For fun lookup what oil is listed for a 19+ 6.7 on AMZ/OIL's site. If you look further they say 10W-30 (Above -18)
5W-40 (Below -18)

I know what oil I would run!!!

Weird, it’s like they matched the owners manual/TSB. Temps are minimum temps, not max temps.

Saw the temp you listed and did a double look, I then had to stop an look it up to be sure, (-18) is in Celsius  thus -18C is Zero degrees Fahrenheit  as listed in my 22 owners manual :)

For the 2018 for example Viscosity 15W-40 (Above -18) 5W-40 (Below -18)

AH64ID why did you run 15-40 on current that is "0" and above but on the new 22 you are going to run the below "0" oil. Seems to contradict?

The way I look at it why have a "0" and above option if the below "0" and above is fine?

I was just made aware of Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 Diesel Engine Oil, does anyone know if we can use this in the 6.7 its rated CK-4?
