My 'noise' dosnt show up when on the brakes,... just at cold start. AND guess what! Hasnt shown up since i started thread.

Bleeding air out might help...

There are 2 PR valves.

One is the filter bypass valve that opens at 50 psid on the filter.

The other is the cold oil bypass valve. It opens at 75 psi and returns the excess oil back to the oil pump.

When the noise occurs and the pressure drops are the rpms steady or dropping too?

I bet if you disconnect your gauge for troubleshooting the noise goes away. It's not uncommon for lines, especially liquid filled, to transmit noises you would otherwise miss.


On my engine I cannot see or hear a change with the bypass valve opens, the oil pressure simply hits 75-80 and stops regardless of rpms.

Engine rpms are steady.
The noise sounds like its some ware around the eng. When i saw my gauge dropping 10 psi whenever the chatter showed up i popped the hood and fealt the hose close to the eng oil filter head but couldnt feel any vibes on the hose. It is a crimped end high temp oil hose. Psi at 'that' start-up was 65 or so psi, and would drop to about 55 when chattering.

I will try to 'fix' the eng oil seep at my gauge connection, very slight, didnt even drip on my mat yet.

Do these bypass valves ever need replacing? [220,000miles as of today]

I would disconnect the gauge at the filter head, put in a pipe plug and try that. I think the noise will go away.

Ok, is the 1/8" NPT plug over the filter housing that I removed and installed my sending unit, is a bad location? So what side of the oil pressure does it see? The entering or leaving pressure side? Personally I don't see how it matters as far as me using it as informational use only. Dodge doesn't seem to care if we know, they just want us to think we see it and that it runs at 40. I think that whatever side it's on, its still better than OEM.

Yes, the PR valves go bad for a variety of reasons. If the noise is in the engine compartment and not the gauge in the cab then you are on the right track, nothing you do to the line or gauge is going to change the noise of the PR valve.

I have had cases where there is no visible wear to the housing or the valves but have lack of pressure issues when cold .Replaced the housing and installed new springs and valves-issue gone

Try changing the oil filter first, to eliminate the possibility of it causing it.

DBL 7349 is the filter i'm using. Is it TOO good at catching CR soot?!
Happened twice today.... makes me ready to fix it! grrrr
I'll take a peep under the hood tomorrow and see what i can see/learn, housing etc.

Just saw on Amazon the ELF 7349 filter is $10 cheaper.... Will you advise me? I thought they are about the same thing.

What is the housing called? Just replace that part as 1 pc? [pr valves inside?]

You will want both gaskets even though technically the cooler doesn't have to come out and also the water outlet seal
