Now I'm thinking if I were in your shoes I would attempt to change the valve / spring combo that is accessible from the outside first before I did anything else. That spring could be weak or broken. Or the valve may be sticking. I think Bob4X4 would agree with that...so examine the spring, compare the length against the new one.

So I will give you pricing on that project first...

#3 3925009 Spring $3.10

#4 3929457 Seal O-Ring $3.67

#8 3947287 Plunger $7.40

These prices are what I would charge you, can't guarantee that others will match it but should not be much more no matter where you go as long as it is from Cummins dealer.

If that fails and you have to go internal here are the prices for the remaining items..

#12 5289557 Head $46.57

#9 3864458 Gasket $13.31

#10 4895742 Gasket $19.40

#5 3936365 Valve $8.04

And the o-ring for the water outlet from the second illustration...

#2 3906697 O-Ring $3.26

My Cummins distributor (Cummins Northeast) stocks all the parts above so you should not have any trouble finding them at an authorized Cummins dealer or distributor.

Not an expensive repair by any means, even cheaper if changing the spring and valve fixes the chatter....

Mike.

Promisedlandorganicfarmer- dude you gotta give us a first name at least ;)

I think there's a diesel shop near Epherata, on the road off 222 that leads into Lititz. I thought I saw a Cummins shingle there. One of our specs uses an oilgear swash plate hyd. pump and the compensator has a spring situated like #3. They're known to break n collapse.

I gotta say, the prices are not too bad.

What a blessing! Mike and all,.. Thank you! I will dig into this as soon as i can. I am moving my shop equipment this weekend so time is limited.

Short jot pf a long story, We where farming on my wife's family farm & because of tense relations, we decided to not buy but move on. And because of my wife's head injuries and Lymes [$ are stretched] we are renting a small property as of now. bit painful to give up farming and my welding/repair shop, but i clearly was the best for us all. So most of my stuff goes into storage for the time being. I am thankful to be able to say this time of illness, doctors, etc. Has drawn us closer... :)
I did spend a lot of time on TDR [and others] something i enjoy AND to get my mind off my problems.... Thank-you for your friendship!

Yes Wayne, I do have a first name, its in my sig, ;) = Matthew. Feel free to call me that. PromLandOrgFarmer is a lot i know, I was an organic farmer [still am in my heart!] And the farm name was Promised Land Organic. So there, know you know the rest of the story... :D

Would this fix 'both' PR valves? [As mentioned earlier]

No, that is only for the one that you can get at without removing the oil cooler / filter head.

Access to the other one requires the removal of the filter head and those are the parts priced in the post immediately after the one that you quoted....

Matthew... And I'm here thinking you're referring to the BOOK in your sig.
Ok got it.
Prayers to your wife. I have a friend who deals with Lymes I can sorta relate. I hope your situation pans out soon. Any type of AG work is a noble deed.
To rebuild that oil system looks to be more messy than hard. I think I would do the whole deal if I were going in there.

Book? Oh! I see! :)
Thanks Wayne, We have been cared for in unexpected ways. God is good.
I am leaning towards doing as you said. Do it once, do it right!

Thanks again Mike for the parts list and pics!!!!!!!!!

The regulator that i replaced has scuff marks on it.

Thanks again Mike for the parts list and pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, i am working on my engine oil psi regulator,... My new part has an extra port ON THE RIGHT SIDE that my old one didnt have. Do i just plug this one? Do you know what size/type fitting this is?

They changed the part number, probably to current production. I double checked but info is sketchy.....Please hold up until I can call Cummins tomorrow and get a print. I assume by extra port you mean that there are two on the top. I can find one illustration that shows it but does not mention it. I found another group that uses it but no illustration....does mention one pipe plug and one metric o-ring boss plug in that second group.

I will let you know just as soon as I can get clarification.

BTW, the part is correct. I just can't tell what the 2nd port thread size is. Again, you are saying there are two threaded ports on the outside top of the filter / cooler head right???

No, Mike. On top there is only one. This fit my oil psi gauge hose, just like i had it set up before. 1/4'' npt. My old housing had two ports on top, one was plugged as stock, and the other had my gauge hose

If you look at my pic, there is a port on the right side 1/2 way down.

Also; there is a small port on top at a 'new' area, close to 1/4' bolt size. Threads are diff though.
I'll post pics of the top as soon as my phone charges some..... gadgets!

Pic 1=Here is the top of the housing, Look closely and you can see the 1/4'' bolt that is finger tite, but dosnt fit. [bolt is about an inch long, sticking up] The oil psi gauge hose is already in place. What you see is high temp hose cover. Again, the new part only has one 1/4'' npt port on top, with the little guy off to the side...

Pic 2= the top of my old housing.

Pic 3= is a close up of the 'side' port that i posted earlyer, i'm thinking o-ring but i dont have a fitting fitting.

Pic 4= a piece that i found in the cavity where the oil cooler was, just laying there... ???? about 1'' long.... water pump impeller piece????
On the long/flat side it looks broke off. [the side at top of pic]

Gotcha, was tired last night and fixated on the wrong area. Will call Cummins this morning and get you the thread size and pitch.*

That port looks like it's made for a compression fitting. The taper inside it looks like its made for a brass 1/4" compression nut and ring. You would insert your copper tubing through the compression nut and ring (joined together) then as you tighten it, the ring crimps on the copper tubbing between the nut and the housing taper. Here's a link to what I'm describing.
