Still working on this, sending your pictures to Cummins now......we are pretty that we have a part number for the plug but want to be 100% sure. As soon as this is verified a request will be sent for the illustrations and parts listings to be updated.....

Looks like you got to be the first one to run into this and bring it up Matthew.....do you feel lucky now?????:D:)

Still don't have the official word from Cummins BUT pretty sure it is M14 X 1.5 X 16.

Cummins Part Number for the plug and o-ring combo is 3678921.

Be very careful, I really doubt that it is JIC.

Probably Metric O-Ring Boss in the size listed above.

Yup, jic dosnt fit & nether did the oring fitting(not sure what size but it shares the same thread as the jic) it was 3/8 jic. BUT pipe threads in freely about 5 turns till it feels resistence. I would say its 1/4 npt... Is it? Thanks mike,... But no, i dont feel lucky...

I dont like this stupid phone!
I found that a #6 metric bolt fit perfect in the small port on top where i `had` the 1/4" bolt in my pic. Teflon i guess?
Soon ill be scared to fix my own to stuff

Yes, I only provided those links so you would have some idea what the threads looked like.

This is very frustrating for me, if I were dealing with Detroit Diesel I would have had the engineering prints within an hour. Cummins keeps things pretty closed off.

They have to fix this, it's going to happen to others and there will be issues such as leaks, stripped holes when people try to use the wrong thread type for the plug, etc....

Mike,

I'm at least impressed with your help the guy out attitude. Nicely done.

Gary

I feel quite responsible where I provided the part numbers in the first place. There was no warning or parts bulletin to go along with the supercession of the filter head so I assumed that all was well.

Cummins is usually very good about that, but mistakes are made by any OEM. I just don't have the inside contacts with Cummins that I do with the other OEM's so that I can get it fixed quickly.

I can see some tech 100 miles back in the woods working on a tree killer running into this little surprise and screwing whatever plug that he has in his toolbox into that port to get the machine back to work........

Well, the plug threaded nicely and sealed! Thanks Mike!!
So, a 14x1.5 metric plug with an o-ring, and a #6 metric bolt in the small port on top. [this one is off to the front right corner of the housing]

BUT,... my gauge acts the same! Not as loud, not as bad...... Air in my gauge hose? I'll prob cap my hose fitting at the filter head and see if this makes a diff....

first pic is the big port at rear of housing.... 2nd pic is small top port, this pic was taken from behind, camera facing froward.

Here is a vid of my gauge in the cab; idle, then to 1500 rpms. When on the road i sometimes see up to 20 psi swings.... [mid gauge]

#12 5289557 Head $46.57

Where did you get that part number? It appears to be a MY13.5+ filter head.

The part number you have in the photo above is 3965153 which is the same as my 2005. The 5289557 isn't listed anywhere with my ESN.

Cummins has superceded the 3965153 to the 5289557.

Not unusual for them to change replacement items to current production specs....but where they went wrong was in not issuing a Parts Topic to inform Parts and Service personnel that additional plugs may be required for use on older applications....

I know that you run Quick Serve, but am unsure of the level of access that you have. Try selecting the 3965153 and if you have access a box will come up with both older and newer part numbers when applicable...let me know if you can and I'll give you a little schooling about finding more info.....

I have the free level :)

I can see one older part number but nothing supersedes the 3965153.

I see what you are doing wrong....go up to the 3965152 which is the filter head AND filter head adapter. Whenever there are indented items below a part number that means those indented items are included with the top number. Thermoking and Daimler Trucks do the same thing.....

So they will sell the filter head adapter by itself but if you want the filter head it will come with the adapter as an assembly. Make sense???

That's where the supercession is....
