I've encountered a wierd problem after changing my rear brakes. After putting on the new brakes and setting the adjustment close, I did some hard stopping while rolling backward to get the self-adjusters to tighten the brakes up. The engine promtly dies when I do this. If I do a 10 mph roll and hit the brakes firmly, I can definitely notice a bog. If I stop harder than this, it will kill it quickly. I haven't noticed this in forward motion. I suspect a weak lift pump not being able to overcome the inertia of the fuel column in the supply line? If this is it, I think it's bad enough for a brief leanout on an abrupt start.

Anyone else experience this?

Well I have the opposite, although I haven't tried backward's hard braking. When I brake hard going fwd, my idle goes up, and thenafter stopping, returns to normal.

This is with a brand new lift pump. If my idle is changing due to braking like yours is, we can eliminate lift pump as a possible problem.

I had a tank full to the top at the time I noticed the problem. I do still have to put in a new fuel filter. The previous owner said he didn't do it the 35k miles he owned it. I know, "get on it". I've been reading about ULSD in my latest issue and noticed the mention of garbage plugging up filters as stations have done the switchover. They did here at the end of the summer, the last time I filled up. It's nice living 3 miles from work. :)

I'll post back with results after the filter, but I am suspicious of the pump too. Looks original.

Thanks!
