But it is chugging.

It started out quite rough.

I suggested we drain some crankcase oil since they overfilled it yesterday. Since it is up past the marks, I have no idea how far above "full" it is. It may be why it is blowing smoke. Plenty, white with a bluish tint. Doesn't smell like diesel.
Although the injectors were "tested", all we have is a piece of paper saying that they were tested.
There is a knock sounding like an injector nailing.
I can't believe that running the crankcase oil over full can do any good. I am concerned about the engine running away with all that extra oil.
As it was idling, it began to die out and catch itself, along with a little bit of black in the smoke. After a few rounds of this, I shut it down.
I am all in favor of draining some crankcase oil before we restart the engine.

This engine maybe sat for a year.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Now you had it running check oil level again and drain as needed. Get some SeaFoam, fill the filter housing, then run it for 30 seconds and let sit for 24 hours. Letting injectors sit any length of time with ULSD in them is guaranteed to stick something. If the SeaFoam doesn't work, new injectors.
