Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Smarty "stutter"

I am having an issue with my 2000 2500 ram with 180,000 miles. When i accelerate on hit hills or while pulling the engine has a decent stutter (almost like a cylinder miss) that seems to go away when when i downshift and get the RPM's up above 2400. Fresh fuel filter, and new air filter. (last year cleaning everything and fresh filters seemed to cure the same issue). My assumption is mybe injectors but i am not sure. No codes are coming on. It is the stock turbo but it appears to be working find it spools great and still boosts to 22 psi or so.

I do have an edge with attitude installed and it does seem that if i turn the chip off the stutter is not as noticable.

Just looking for suggestions. What are the symptoms if a injector is going out?

Thanks

CH

I have something in the 01 I describe as engine shutter. It is a little different than yours. I only get it at very light throttle at very light load and low rpms with the TC locked. Barely noticeable without the quad mileage max, but with it on, its too annoying to drive. The mileage max only effects timing so, I don't know what to think. I remember my dad's old GM 6. 2 used to do it some to.

It's my experience that if you have an issue that could be related to a box/chip/whatever, don't just turn it off. Unplug it and make the truck back to truely stock. I replaced a perfectly good VP44 b/o a bad Banks wiring harness once.

Thanks, i am thinking it has something to do with the timing also, when put to stock it pretty much was not noticable. Good or bad news i just went and traded it in on a 2006. As i was trying to look at the engine the fuel gage went out and the steering column key starter was acting up again where it won't turn off unless you mess with keys and i just decided it time to either rebuild everything or attempt to trade it in on a newer model.

Must be a timing thing. This AM is was 5 degrees and it was more noticeable with stock timing. I wish I knew what it was.

About two years ago my truck stuttered a couple of times at light power and at the same time the brake light would come on. Last week after setting for a couple of weeks it started doing the same thing. The fix for me was to clean the battery posts and disconnect and reconnect the plugins for the various sensors,vp44,and any power box you may have installed. I'm not sure which one did the trick for me, but the price was just some of my time.

I thought that I read on here somewhere that it had something to do with the MAP sensor or the IAT sensor & with add on programmers

I have cured issues like this twice by adding a GOOD ground from the Edge box to the driver's side fender (same screw that has a small lead directly to the neg battery terminal. Use some dielectric grease on the electrical connectors for the MAP and data plug for good measure.

I have had problems like this as well. I am currently running my SMARTY on stock timing and it is much better. It incresed a lot after I put the Mach 2 injectors in. It seems to go away above 40 degrees so I think it is timing also. I also had success in fooling the IAT sensor into thinking it was warmer with a 1 OHM (I think) resistor from radio shack. Problem went away.

Good Luck

Dan
