What is considered "normal" engine temperature for our trucks ?

When I had the scan tool hooked up, I noticed mine was runnning around 158-160 degrees. Would engine temperature have any effect on the transmission hunting ?

I was checking the voltage on the TPS and noticed that the voltage was jumping all around. I cleaned the TPS with TV tuner cleaner from radio shack and everything was fine for about 30 miles and then it started hunting between 3rd/OD again.

TIA

Our early trucks all seem to run a bit cool. Nascar Mark did some tinkering on this a couple years ago and found the they seem to fall right in the zone you describe.

It is better if they run closer to 180 - 185*F. This helps maintain proper (better) cylinder temps for fuel combustion... especially if we overfuel them like we seem to do.

BTW, I would not consider ANY other make of thermostat than a genuine Cummins T-Stat.

I've seen/read/heard of more guys having headaches with other brands... things like large temp swings and so forth seem to be the main complaint and you don't want that if you can prevent it.
