First day on the site, was wondering for those of you that tow or did tow stock is there any advantage to upgrading to a 4" turbo back exhaust?

I have a 2001 auto w/3. 54 4 x 4... Thanks, Bill

A 4" exhaust is going to help you the most when you have done other fueling enhancements to your engine. It will lower your exhaust gas temperatures on any engine configuration but this effect would be amplified when you are putting more fuel to your engine.

It will decrease the EGT's on a stock truck but it's really not necessary. If you are towing really heavy in extreme conditions and up steep grades, a 4" exhuast would probably be beneficial, otherwise it really doesn't matter. A 4" exhaust was the first thing that I did to mine and I did feel like that the engine breathed better and that I had more top-end performance. I didn't have gauges at the time so I can't quote you an exact figure on EGT drop.

So, if you doing some serious towing, I would go for it, otherwise, there's no need for one on a stock truck.

And welcome to the TDR! :)

You might consider a set of 275 injectors. These will give a litte better mpg with some torque gain. Boxes nice but if you want just a little more torque and good drivability with out the worry of having to upgrade the transmission, the 275's would help you. Guages first though ;)

I agree, do the gauges first. This will let you know where you are starting from. If you look at my sig, it is in the order of how I did my mods, I opted for air in first and still have not done the exaust to this day, it is time now (I can bush the EGT's way up there with a load behind) but i want to do some mods to my turbo at the same time.

By the way, Welcome

Thanks for the advice guys, I haven't towed all that much however I will be towing more in the near future. We are going to build a house in Southern Arizona so I will be hauling Equipment, household goods, and animals down from northern Utah. Some good size hills along the way. I have a Wilson stock trailer 16k GVW, I wont load it past my tow rating (9700# I believe). Once we make the final move I will be using the trailer quite a bit. Again thanks, Bill
