Boy, I like this thing. Believe it or not this thing really outperforms my old 6. 9 Ford!
The question and shopping lists are growing long.
First this thing is completely stock except for 2" Skyjacker lift/spring on front.
Apparently done to level out truck. These were put on 3 years ago along with Rancho 5000 shocks.
The first thing will be new tires going on Saturday morning. Decided to go with 235-85 16's. 245-75-16's were on there and look puny. Seemed like narrower would address potential rubbing on duals.
Second will be pyrometer, boost, and tach.
Will go with Hewitt pyro as I'm connected there and probably Autometer or Westach boost and tach. Later trans temp and psi.
Third will be adapting rear bench from a '97 that I found so the whole family can actually ride in it. Time to use that big ol'camper.
Fourth address that rear spring issue. Local 4x4 shop agreed that the stiffer front upgrade and stock rear could make the problem I questioned about in earlier post.
They suggested air bags if not doing serious off-roading.
Fifth, If you guys are doing performance upgrades then dammit I'll have to do it too!
But I'll have to sell some other toys to do it lest I'll be flogged by better half.
Questions:
1) Belt tensioner pulley is squeaky. Can new bearing be put in or do I have to buy new one? If not is this a Dodge only part? Please tell me I can buy just pulley and not whole unit.
2)Truck is auto. When I'm in gear stopped the truck chatters a tiny bit, really anxious to go. If I give it the slightest bit of throttle it really smoothes out. So maybe I can crank up the idle a bit? Or maybe some trans engagement adjustment?
3)Thirdly: Occasionally a bit of a clunky shift between 2 and 3 but only at slow speeds. Ford used to do this and seemed like it was lack of vacuum generated at these low speeds. Maybe the same deal? Smooth as silk when driving more aggressively.
Well that's the short list.
Thanks for listenin'!

Sugest that you drive the truck for while before making too many upgrades. The best first purchase is a factory service manual, look in the owner's manual for details. Can't help you with the belt tensioner. Idle speed for an automatic is given as 700rpm, I would assume that is in drive. The shift problem will not be caused by vacuum, dodge trannys don't use it. Your transmission should have a cable operated linkage, that goes from the throttle arm to the transmission, its the one with the long slot. This used to be called the kick down, on a Dodge to get a quick downshift, you have to back off the throttle a bit and then jump on it. You can also get an early upshift if you accelerate quickly and then back off. I believe that your linkeage is slightly out of adjustment, the correct adj. requires a . 180 inch gap, between the back (to firewall) of the pin and front side of slot. Check also that the cable operates freely and there should be a return spring on the side of the transmission. A #15 drill bit is . 180 inch (could also use 3/16 drill bit, . 0075 larger), you may have to remove the washer on the throttle arm to check the gap.

I would also suggest changing the trans fluid and filter and also adjusting the bands.
A MAG-HYTEC transmission pan and rear differential cover should be on your list of "must have's".

My suggestion would be to replace the tenson pulley, they arn't that much, but they can sure make for a bad day when they go. I would also replace the belt unless recently new. Then you are good to go. I learned something from your post can a 97 bench seat be used to replace the jump seats in a 93?

Have fun, I think you will really like the stability.

Many belated thanks for replies.

ETOBICOKE:
Am heeding your advice about driving truck as is to learn it as stock. Seems like the best way to evaluate anything I might want to do in future. I did get a service manual and it is quite good and will be indispensible. Am going to to the guages though ASAP. Am going to check that linkage today and also have complete transmission inspection/service scheduled for Monday morning.

Gene H. :
Agree on trans service (see above). Any feelings on synthetic or other updated fluid?
Yeah those Mag-Hytecs look good.
Is that your rig on issue 29's front cover?
Nice looking truck! ( Looks just like mine )

Hill:
Replaced pulley with heavy duty unit from "Practical Solutions" whom I found on the links here. Gordon is one nice guy, really went out of his way to get it here quickly. Part was $35 and vastly superior to stock plastic unit. Local dealer would only sell complete assembly at $168! (Many warm thoughts about dealers. ) Looks as if one could press new bearings into stock unit but it is plastic. The "P. S. " unit is steel and 3/8" wider. Had already replaced belt as it was first suspect in search for squeak.
About seat: Am relying on replies on this very topic that was in archives. Piers ("BD" guy??) had mentioned that a buddy of his did it with little difficulty and great success.
Have all measurements filed and am going to doublecheck all. Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again guys, Bob

Bob I have used the mopar trans fluid with out any problems. Just need to be sure that it doesn't get to hot. Amsoil makes a good syntheic fluid if you need one.
I have put a bench seat in mine also. It came out of an extended cab chevy. It looks nice and it was fine while the kids were little. Now there is very little room for the legs. Be sure about the size I think the dodge seat is bigger then the chevy seat.
Yes its mine on 29.

NOMOFO: I checked the links but couldn't find "Practical Solutions". How do I contact them? I think (sounds like)I could use on of their tensioners myself.
