Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Newbie turbo advice wanted

I've had an eratic idle (and tach) problem itermittently for the last 6 months (no specific codes just the 1693, and the check engine light). Truck runs but misses under load.

During that time I've replaced/performed the following in an attempt to fix it:

-Replaced the apps

-replaced both batteries (4 year old factory batts, and I wanted optimas anyway)

-replaced the crankshaft position sensor

-re-ran the ground wire between the apps and ecm

-cleaned the ecm connectors

I thought the crankshaft position sensor finally fixed it then today it happened again.

I checked the usual, batteries, fuel pressure, etc. Then I decided to remove the edge ez. Once the ez was out, the truck ran fine. I checked codes with the scanner and got the 1693 and 0234. I've never worried about the 1693 I've had this since the ez was installed (and it didn't trigger a check engine light). I cleared both with the scanner and now with the edge out of the truck the 1693 didn't come back (or the 0234 of course).

Since I first added the edge ez, I've since added the 275 injectors. I used to notice a big difference when disconnecting the ez before the injectors, put this time I didn't notice too much of a difference in performance (the 275s are nice all by them selves). Also, I was surprised I could still exceed 25 psi of boost and no codes were set (thought the truck with out the ez would set over boost codes).

Has any one else seen the edge ez cause an intermittent idle issue?

thanks in advance.

Jon

Just realized that, 124 P 0234 is the code for Turbo boost limit exceeded

Still would like to know if any one else has had a bad ez cause an eratic idle.

thanks,

Jon

I did a little more trouble shooting, my erratic idle occurs when I plug the ez diagnostic bus connector in. If I disconnect the diagnostic bus connector the idle smooths out (with the ez map connector plugged in).

I'm calling edge products on monday to see if I can return the unit for repair (even with the map part plugged in I feel, no smoke, that it is fueling).

I'm out of warranty (I've had the ez for 4 years now) so I guess I will have to pay for the repair, maybe I can trade up to a comp.

Until it comes back I'll just run stock map settings, it actually runs pretty good now with the 275's.

Just called edge products, they said to send them the failed unit (they said they had a few boxes returned for the same symption, problems connecting to the data link connector), and it would cost between $250-$350 to repair. Or I could elect to upgrade to a newer model of same or a comp. I'll probablly go for the comp.

$250-$350????

:--) That seems aweful high to me..... But I bought my used one for $300 off ebay..... How much to do the upgrade to the Comp???
