Took off with the truck this morning, got about ten minuets out and I noticed the converter was unlocking and locking back up with no apparent reason. I kept driving and set the cruise. About a mile down the road the cruise kicked off by itself. So i figured the brake switch was the problem. After that I went to accelerate from a stop sign got into third and it all of a sudden went back to second then back to third and the tach was jumping around from 3500 to zero very erratically. So I guess that rules out the brake switch  . I figured it is the crank position sensor. Does it sound like that is the problem. If so were would be the best place to get a new one.

Thanks in advance

Cade

OK, last night the tach went crazy and at the the same time the check engine light flashed for an instant. Does this point to somthing else?

local parts store has the sensor for 85 bucks. I really would like to know that it's the problem before replacing it. Can someone help? The light comming on makes me a little worried that it's not the problem.

My truck started doing the same thing. I found some wiring rubbing on the engine. With the ignition on have someone sit in the seat. Jiggle the different harnesses until you find which one it is.

Hope this helps,Rod

Try cleaning the connector to the engine speed sensor (crank speed sensor) just follow the wires up until you come to it. Check for loose or bent pins.

Also check to see if engine speed sensor has correct gap (4-5 business cards).

Spray contact cleaner into TPS.

Your PCM could be acting up.
