Sorry it took so long to answer. First thing is I do like it. The temperature guage still does not read when it is started. But the cab is toasty warm. On cold days there is enough heat in the engine bay to indirectly warm the manifold. I can tell this by the amount of time the wait to start light goes out. 5 seconds instead of a minute. On the raod the engine is warm in about a mile ( reading on the guage) instead of around three or four miles. It totally beats out the block heater. No cords etc. to remember to plug in and unplug (the whole point is to minimize the amount of cold weather labor). It may pull the battery down slightly but it seems to be more than offset by the easier cranking. The timer can be preset to start at a certain time on any particular day. It will run for up to 120 minutes which is also adjustable. To put the fuel supply tube in I dropped out the fuel tank. At the same time I was installing a 50 gallon replacement tank from AERO tanks ( I cannot reccomend them, the attention to detail was not there). I used the same float/sender/fuel sock assembly. A part that replaced the stock "tank pump out connection" was supplied. It added the fuel tube for the heater and retained the pump out connection. It has several good features. The controls will kick out if there is a voltage problem. When fuel is below 1/4 tank it will loose suction and stop. It will reprime itself when you refill and restart the heater. The price may be steep but it is a very well thought out product for our application. Many thins you buy can be "made to fit", this actually fits. As an example- the fuel tube to the lift pump would interfere. A new fuel tube banjo fitting was included to move the suction line out of the way. The bracket puts the heater in a spot that you think nothing can go there but it does with room to spare. As far as cost/benefit? How resistannt or annoyed by cold are you. How often do you scrape ice off windows? How willing are you to spend possibly a weekend under the truck? But at least you know that you get what you pay for. This is NOT junk.
BTW- This was one of the things I thought was most worth it. ( notheast winter). Related string from the board when there was interest last fall- also some installation tips (from me) https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000139.html

What was the outside tempeture at the time. How long was the Espar heater runing prior to starting.

Well folks,
I've ordered mine and the remote too.

My electric bills are kicking my @ss and the power company is going to boost the cost again. @28cents a kilowatt, I'm surely not living in Tacoma anymore (~4cents).

I doubt it will ever really pay for itself, but I will enjoy the freedom from the $#@$ powercord.

David... Thanks for all the work you have done on this. I have been wanting one of these things ever since I first heard about them but the price has been to high. The Dodge dealer here in Anchorage wants $1700, installed.

The outside temp was about 15F. Windows clear cab is warm. I usually set the timer for slightly over an hour before I schedule myself to leave in the morning. Two hours does not do any more at that temp. About installation plan to spend a solid day doing this. Fuel tank up and down, starter in and out, install bracket, cut into water, run dash wiring. I broke it up over a few weeks. And besides the other wiring I was doing took an entire day (guages, painless box, speed corrector, and espar)

Count me in if the price is below $1k. Eastern Oregon Elk hunting requires quite an electrical cord, so the ESPAR would be great.

97 ext cab, Camper Special, Prime Lock, 5spd, 3. 54,E-Brake, Pendleton Mirrors, etc;would like to add ESPAR!

Wow, please read this thread.

ESPAR has already agreed to the deal and it stands for the first 300 who bite.

If you can't find the reference in TDR to this, please find the link on my site below. <hr color="#008008" align="center"><div align="center"><center><table border="0" width="362" height="21" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="362" height="21" align="center"><font color="#008080"><small>DAVID_VT's Cyber Garage and Multimedia Sandbox</small></font></td></tr><tr><td width="362" height="21"><p align="center"></td> </tr></table></center></div><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial" color="#808080"><hr color="#008008"></font>

I read the installation instructions @ the Espar web site. Does not look too bad. definately a FULL Saturday, and then some. I would like to replace my fuel sending unit at the same time, since the tank will be down. Hopefully a new & improved sender will be available by then. This is the last time I want to change it.
