Has anyone installed aftermarket clear euro type headlight assemblys on a 2nd Gen. ?And if so did they make any difference in the brightness over our lame stockers, my originals are cloudy, thats why I was wondering.

Gary- where did you get your headlights from?

DEPOT brand off Ebay - a fair number of other members here are using them also - the tail lights are also an Ebay item. Headlights were just under $200 for the set, including bulbs as I recall - the tail lights reuse the OEM bulbs and harness, and were $60 delivered.

And yes, BOTH setups provide a vast improvement in lighting, and both are SAE approved/certified - some are not, and are illegal for use on US roadways - buyer beware... ;)

If you're paying 2 bills for Depot headlight assemblies, you're paying too much.

http://www.certifit.com for around $80 per side. But you'll have to go to the counter to pick them up.

HOOooookay - that's $160 for a pair, and I live in eastern Oregon - how far away IS that counter from here, and how much time and fuel for me to get there - or what $$$ for them to ship to here?

Think it can be done for the $30 difference I paid? ;) :-laf :-laf

Ya know, SOME of us don't LIVE in metropolitan areas, where there are lots of local options... ;)

I sorta suspect that the $189 per pair DELIVERED to my door, wasn't all that bad... :-laf :-laf

Has anyone tried the projector style headlights on Ebay? They look cool, but sound kinda cheap for an entire assembly...

Gery those look very similar to the factory sport lights other than the bars in the lens. Are they significantly different from the sports?

BRobertson and myself have the euro style projector HID headlights. I'm trying to attach the picture but am having no luck. If you go to BRobertson's readers rigs or gallery, you can see the headlights on my red truck(the one with all the lights about half way down) and they are true high and low beam Zenon lights. The only ones on the market I believe.

Gary, So your lights are a direct replacment bolt in, unlike the sport conversions that require some metal fab... .

Has anyone tried to install these in a '97?? Is this a direct bolt-in replacement for the stockers? I recall an older issue of TDR Mag. saying some "modifications" were required to install the newer sport lights in older trucks.

The sheet metal work is only required for second generation Rams manufactured prior to the introduction of the dual-bulb Sport lamp housings. All 2002 Rams have the necessary clearance for the Sport lamps—no cutting required.

Virtually all aftermarket Sport lamps are DEPO (DEer POint, Taiwan) brand, regardless of the vendor.

Thomas has already adequately and correctly replied to the questions - I haven't had the opportunity to get up close to a Sport model Dodge to compare, so can't say as to how exact they match. No sheetmetal work on my '02 - earlier, pre-Sport models will need some help - and the wiring adaptation for the dual bulb Sport conversion isn't difficult for most guys - but DO plan on converting over to relay powered lights instead of increasing the demand on the already marginal light switch. There are aftermarket wiring conversion kits available that take care of all the details, and are probably the smartest way for most guys to go...

I wasn't that smart, so "rolled my own"... :D

Are they a bolt in kit or did you have to fab the covers and corner lamps yourself?

BTowler,

This is a kit that definitely not just bolt in. BRobertson does the modifications and the wiring harness. It also isn't cheap. But considering how the "candle in the wind" headlights we have on the 97's, it was worth it. I'll try to get another picture and post it but I'm not having any luck.

The projectors you are talking about look alot like the Borealis ones. I talked to the guy one time and 3 months later tried to order them and both his web site and phone number are no longer any good. Expensive but they looked like the best ones avail. that really worked. If you can talk him into making me a set please have him pm me. Thanks
