Well,

Here is my . 02

Daily driving; Have some fun, make a bit-o-smoke, and some increased performance... Right?

Truck pulling; Are you looking at doing this simply for fun or are you out for blood and $$$???

These are two very different endevors.

If you wish to try your hand at some pulls and wish to have some fun on the streets at the same time the factory H1C w/16 will work out well.

The larger housing will net less top end EGT's w/less low end boost while the smaller housing allows high boost at lower end and atributes to high temps at the higher fueling rates/higher speeds.

You'll face some higher EGT's first hand/right off with out a cooler.

Lets hear from some others on the board.

or should i just a whole new turbo like the HX35? not to sure about this turbo stuff. i want to get as much out of the ve pump as i can. so i figured that i would get a different turbo or housing and some injectors like lucas or something.

A high performance unit/hybrid etc. Perhaps w/a waste gate.

If you'r thinking serious pulling, a new/upgraded/high performance/high$$$$ cylinder head will be in order.

I was u, I'd opt for a hybrid turbo w/gate 'cause your non ic'ed.

Maybe change you'r head gasket too... .

... and bigger sticks

Oo. Oo. Oo. oh,yahhh!

Come on guys, he needs our help 'cause his wallet is swollen... ... ... ...

Go for the 16cm housing. Try it out on your current turbo and see what happens... if egt's are too high, think about a larger turbo and some porting/polishing.

The 16cm housing is the best compramise because it does not create any more EGT's than the 18, but spools faster. It's the best housing IMO for a single turbo... but TWINS on the other hand... :D

You'll be happy with the 16 housing on your stock turbo as a daily driver. It's a nice upgrade that greatly improves drivability.

BUT... since you're shooting for big power or max power, you will quickly outgrow that and be looking for a turbo upgrade... ... .

So my advice is to upgrade now to a PDR HX 35 hybrid or a Dodgezilla (HX 40 hybrid).

Jay

EDIT Be advised that's an opinion from a NON Buckeye :D

I just saw the signature mod... . dang... go on a quick business trip and look what they do to ya!!:-laf  :-laf

Jealousy... pure and simple.

smokein cummins-

First and foremost, get an intercooler; it wont harm your driveability, and will lower EGTs, which is a must if you go with a set PODs. I can hit 1250 empty, and will find out this week what I get hauling 1 horse. With a 90, you will most likely have to do some tweaking on the grille to make it all fit. You are on the right track with the 4" exhaust. Get a 16 NWG housing to go with it, and get a 40psi or better boost gauge. I had a 12, and for even empty driving, it was too restrictive; I had 10psi on the hwy @60. Went back to a 18 (it was FREE, and I did some Dremmel surgery to it), and have 2-5 psi @60, with the same or maybe slightly higher EGT. Seem to have gained about 1 MPG, too. I'd go for at least a PDR HX35, maybe a HX35/40 hybrid- get airflow of a 40, but keep your downpipe, saving you some $$$$.

AND to complement your turbo upgrade, be it small or extravagant, get a bigger/ better flowing air filter, be it a aFe, or BHAF. MY pics of a K&N will convince you otherwise... ... Pastor Bob now says PDR can hybridize your stock H1C the same way they do the HX35; he tells me AFTER I afro engineer the set up and get a 35 onto a nonIC crossover.

If you're talking about exhaust flow, then that's not true. The exhaust side is the 35, and the compressor is the 40. You move the air of a 40, but get the restriction from the 35 housing. FYI to those who don't know: The goal of a highbrid is to spool like a smaller turbo but get the air-moving capabilities of a larger turbo.

thanks for the help guys. i will eventually be using the truck for just truck pulling. so it sounds like the 40 hybrid is the way to go. now does this just bolt right on or does the down pipe have to be changed?

New downpipe... and if you're going to be pulling sleds with it...

I'd wait untill you got some more fuel and just for for the pdr-40 or an h2e.

CB,

Airflow is just that- AIR flow; not exhaust flow; that is different. Gotta nit pick on everything I post, dontcha? ;)

When I think of airflow, I think of the flow off air through the engine.

I gotta give you crap about SOMETHING every now and then... :D

You give me plenty of crap, CB. If it werent for the crap you (and everyone else here) dish out to me, my yard would get no fertilizer. ;) ANyway, once it enters the combustion chamber, it becomes exhaust:rolleyes:
