Exhaust Brake Shifter Switch

I expected to MPG's to go down, but....!

Have you pulled out your furnace?

I'm looking for an Exhaust Brake switch that is (manual trans) shifter mounted for my upcoming Jacobs exhaust brake. I really like the look of the switches on the Jacobs 2003 model, but mine's a 2002. I haven't found a retail source and don't know about compatibility. Mechanicsville Dodge, where I ordered my brake from, said they could not get the switch seperately. By the way, their price on the brake was $163 LESS than Cummins Intermountain here in Las Vegas.

I'm not interested in the Eaton-Fuller shifter, just a switch, Preferably one with good tactile feedback so I don't have to look to see if it's engaged. Something lighted would be my second choice.

The reason I'm getting the exhaust brake now is because I'm stepping up from a small travel trailer to a 30' 5th wheel. Realizing that my shortbox 4x4 is not the ideal 5th wheel platform, I've been researching this and other forums for advice on the concerns of this setup. For cab clearance, I've decided to pay now rather than later for the Pullrite Super Glide 16K (automatic slider) hitch. The trailer axles are already flipped and running 225 size tires. Hopefully this is enough for bed clearance. Any other advise from those of you towing with a shortbox 4x4 would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil

I am pretty sure that either PacBrake or B&D used to have the shift stalk shifter, give them a call. I think you made a good choice with the PullRight, great products and great people to deal with from my experience.

NAPA 2-speed switch

Thomas,

Nice picture. I don't have the brake yet so I don't understand the switch operation. I assume the supplied dash mount switch is electric. Is your switch electric? Did you fabricate the bracket? Can you tell me how it connects to the brake and provide any additional description.

Thanks,

Neil

I installed the two-speed switch in place of the supplied rocker switch. I never cut the hole in the lower dash for the rocker switch as per the instructions with the E-brake. The switch breaks/completes the circuit from pin #20 of the ECM to the vacuum solenoid that closes the butterfly of the E-brake. Pin #20 has +12 volts available at anytime the engine has been in an unfueled condition for at least one to one and a half seconds. I typically put the switch in the 'on' position and leave it that way until shortly before I shut the engine off.

I found the bracket (and altered it to fit) at a truck driveline supplier.

BD brake has the switch and shifter mounting bracket. Also Gear Vendors uses the same setup for the overdrive units and it may be cheaper.

more switches

Piers has a switch too. I can't find the one on BD's site. I still like Thomas's setup best.

Air horns... hmmmm?
