I have the 4" Silverline on my truck. Have the Inline BD-Brake and added a 12" resonator where the stock Cat would be. My truck is not loud by any means but when towing my trailer loaded I could deal with a but less drone.



I had a Custom Banks muffler made to fit right in place where my Silverline muffler is. I am going to install it in the next few weeks.

I like my stuff quiet, so I went to our local big-rig shop, and told them I wanted a 4" muffler as big as I could fit. I think it cost about $70 , cuts the sound down to near silent, and is still 4" straight through with 3 expansion chambers. The straight through, louvered muffler that was on the truck when I bought it was just plain loud. Also, I still have my cat, and I run twin turbos, which will cut down on some of the sound, too. I'm tempted to say my truck is as quiet or quieter than stock.

Might also think about using a sound deadener ( E-Dead, Dynamat, B-Quiet, or other brand) directly above the muffler. Helps w/ metal resonance in the cab.

I too love my MBRP 4" exhaust while empty but hate the throughway while towing. After reading this thread, I called two different dealers to find out their opinion as whether to go with the diesel resonator or a second muffler. The first said one, the other said the second. Still confused, I figured I'd give MBRP directly and let them make the decision for me. They told me to go with a third option. It seems that they just came out with a new diesel muffler that is still free flowing but is three chambered and gets rid of the drone. No one has it on their websites as of yet but they are able to get it. I ordered one and the factory is going to weld on the hanger and ship it today or tomorrow. Hopefully will have it installed early next week. I am probably going to install the original muffler just before this one as I don't think it will impede flow at all and hopefully make things quieter inside. I will try to do that after a trip or two so I can report how this muffler works by itself. BTW, the part number is M1004S.

Since my truck already came with an aftermarket straight through muffler, it was already modified so the pipe entered the muffler and exited the muffler at the same height. I believe the stock muffler is an offset deal, where it enters lower on the muffler, then exits higher (offset). That may cause you some difficulty, depending on your setup.

Sorry. I meant to say that I will be installing the current MBRP muffler before their replacement muffler. Both are straight through without offset. When I'm finished, it should look similar to TCDiesel's setup.

Love the stacks on the 01, but for the 09 DD and long drive home, it can be quite irritating at times. I love being able to hear music and sometimes QUIET!!!



Low noise can help a great deal with recognizing "odd noises" coming from potential problems that wouldn't be heard otherwise.



I currently have all deletes on the 09 and have put the factory muffler back on to reduce the drone and am happy so far.

I put and Aeroturbine, straight- through, 4"in 4"out non-resonated w/ a stack that's 5" from the cab and the 65mph or 2000rpm drone is loud. First few days I was going to add a resonater, but once I got used to it it's not bad.



Note the HX-40 downpipe wrapped up nice w/ header wrap & SS tie wrap.

Salt is not used on airport runways due to it's corrosive nature.



Road salt destroys the undercarriage. Even powdercoating won't hold up. Ziebert rustproofing is useless.



Painted the complete front differential and attachment points w/ POR15 (followed the directions to a T) it all flaked-off in 2 winters.



Every spring spent an hour on my back w/ a quart of Salt Away hooked up to the hose. Waste of time. :-laf



If I were to do it again I would have sprayed the undercarraige w/ used engine oil with a garden sprayer sever times a year.

I received the new muffler from MBRP on Monday and installed it yesterday. It was a straight forward swap out but I did place the standard MPRP muffler in front of the new one. I wanted to only swap them out and do a test with the new muffler before adding the second so I could accurately see how it helped with drone but with the weather turning cold again today, I only had time to take it apart once. I haven't gotten to hook up one of the trailers yet but going around town it is noticibly quieter. I'm not sure if you can see in the pics but there are three chambers inside this muffler. Fit and finish is what you expect from MBRP.

Thought I would give an update on how the new MBRP diesel muffler worked. In short, I'm disappointed. It did quiet the outside noise just a bit and took some of the bark out but I got a chance to hook up the old fiver and take it down the highway. As I hit 70, there was the drone again. It did seem to be a little less than before but I am not sure if that is due to the second muffler or that I am now running a few less RPM's with the 19. 5's. I didn't want to get the speed up any higher as there were cops around every 5 miles with their radar guns out the window plus that whole safety thing.
On an unrelated note, the Ricksons, Pac Brake air bags and Max brake were worth every penny. Where I used to be very aware of every bump, turn and stop, I now almost forget that the trailer is back there.

I was afraid that might happen. . I took measurements of my muffler for you just in case... 28 long, 11 diameter 4" straight through with 3 expansion chambers for sound suppression. If I can figure out how to show the picture I took, I'll show you what it looks like.
VERY quiet, zero drone, and no restriction. Bought from a local big rig shop.

I'll be living with this setup for another two years or so until it's time for a new one. It is somewhat better and i will definitely be going slower with the new trailer as compared to the last so i won't be in the 2200 rpm range where it was the worst. I was just a little disappointed that this didn't work as advertised. Coming directly from the factory rep, this was to get rid of drone by itself. I figured with 2 on there, it would be overkill. Who knows, maybe it did and I screwed it up by adding the second?

The only Muffler at stopping drone 1/2 way is Banks... It also cost 3 times more then most mufflers,but it Worth the extra expense.

For what its worth, I have the Banks 4" monster cat back system. Truck is stock 5. 9 engine. Had a minor drone when I installed the system. After discovering I had the tail pipe too far forward into the muffler (cost me a new right rear brake line) I moved the tail pipe back so it cleared the rear axle and mutch to my suprise, the exhaust was a little quieter. So I tried rotating the tail pipe to raise and lower the exhaust tip. The closest the tip could be to the lip under the body is 2". Next I moved the exhaust tip out to reduce the soot on my bumper, and now no drone untill 2,400rpm and 20psi or more boost towing a 8,000lb travel trailer (thats over 75mph). The Banks system now is very quiet in the truck, but still has a nice rumble outside.

The drone in my '04. 5 with 4. 10 rear was non-existent with the stock muffler. Had the muffler removed and pipe put in, way too loud and horrible drone. Installed a Silver Line muffler, somewhat quieter but still had drone. Installed Silver Line 4" from turbo back with Donaldson Muffler M090544 and drone is not discernable at 65 mph and 2100 rpm while towing heavy. Highly recommend the Donaldson.
