Computer says exhaust filter is full and its been a few days and doesnt look like its going to clear its self up. Truck is out of warranty and no annual emssion check where I am.

Pros and Cons of removing filter?... ... . and where is it located and how I know its the right one Im removing.

How many miles?

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a replacement item, quite expensive, that is known to have a finite service life. EB, an oilfield hauler with a 3500 C&C had to replace his at something like 200+k miles.

The DPF is the one with several probes with wires attached. If you simply remove it you'll get a permanent Check Engine Light and there may be the possibility of the engine computer going into the limp mode.

I have not removed mine so have no experience but if you'll do some reading many have removed theirs and cleared the codes with a SmartyJr "magic black box. " Key the phrase "DPF removal" or "SmartyJr" into the TDR search engine and you may find what you need.

Maybe someone who has done the removal can tell you what you need to know.

Go tho ThrobredDiesel, get the pdf turbo back delete kit and the Smarty 67 ME and the egr delete kit from S and S and the 5 inch exhaust with muffler, about $1500 total and u can install it all yourself in one day easy with a helper.

The pdf is only available from the dealer its $2200 plus install, no brainer, it makes the truck run like an old 5. 9 and no more cel and gummed up egr;s and the truck will get about 20 mpg, i just did it last month and wish i had done it 3 years ago, truck is fun to drive now. If u keep driving it with the plugged up pdf u will pump feul into the oil and blow up the motor, do it off and update, cumminsdiesel forum is where there is tons of info about install and do it yourselfers about the 6. 7. for some reason this site is not info aftermarket stuff seems like, no advertisers sell on here eithe who have the pdf delete kits so go figure. Good Luck

Harvey, how many miles on your truck now? Mine is at 86K. I simply unplugged the EGR and it made a dramatic difference in fuel consumption with no discernible impact on power output. A CEL is lit but that's all. Will do an oil analysis to see what impact if any it has on the fuel dilution of the oil. If unplugging the EGR is that beneficial and I don't need to buy a magic box, then I can leave the DPF on and keep the clean tailpipe with no worries. Its fun being my own warranty station.....

My truck has a little under 105k on the odometer now. It is a cab and chassis with ECM programming and hardware different from the pickups so what applies to a pickup does not necessarily apply.

I will not drive a truck with a permanent CEL showing.

Mine is C&C also, I have the 5" exhaust already. So Im guess if I go Whiteranch04 route I just need to chop off the PDF and get the Smarty 67 ME and the egr delete kit??

That is my understanding but I can't speak from experience.

Before you spend the money you could send an email to Bob Wagner (I think that is the correct name) vendor for the Smarty magic black boxes. He will reply and answer your questions. He can give you an answer you can count on.

I dont recomend anything other than an H&S tuner. Works better than anything else. can be used on stock hp settings with dpf deleted. No foolers to plug in or go bad. H&SPERFORMANCE.com

The CEL light comes on after I start the truck, but there is no related DTC that will show up on the dash. The CEL goes out when you plug the EGR back in. The emissions system is the same on my truck as yours, they are both 2008, right? Your EB is always on while I have to switch mine on. Ever since I had the turbo replaced and the J35 flash done last year, this truck has been trouble free!

Thx HBarlow will definately get intouch with him. Who is he with to be able to get intouch with him?? Is he on here also?

Bob Wagner is a TDR member and advertises in the TDR magazine. I don't know his website name but I'm sure it appears in the magazine or do a search in the TDR forums for his name or Smarty.

Sure will, Thx again. How long can I run my truck with filter at 100% before I cause any damage??
Until it goes into limp mode or it dumps fuel enuff in the oil to dilute the vis and seize the crankshaft. Park it asap and order the kit from throbreddiesel.com ask for James, they have the best customer service and in stock and tons of good reviews, good luck

My guess is one day on the road working and the engine computer will go into the limp mode and possibly shut it down. You'll probably be facing a large towing bill.

I wouldn't try it.
