Well, it finally happened. Driving down the highway at 55 mph and the engine just shut off. Diagnosis: injection failure. Repairs are under way. The total cost will be $2,424. 38,

This is the first repair in 168,100 miles/ except for a replacement Carter pum,. followed by a DDRP pump.

I am still running my first replacement set of tires. They look good enough to run another 20,000 miles. I never run a tire that is showing a wear indicator. The only other repaqair was replacing a tail light bulb.

Sounds like you made that VP last longer than most. The VP on my 2000 went to 140k with the stock lift pump!

Really hate that feeling of no power steering when the motor stops running.

Then I found the TDR.

I dread the day mine finally goes on my 02.

It is rare for the VP44 to just quit without some prior hard start/dead peddle issues, it will usually give some indicators of failing before total failure. If you haven't already, I would make sure the lift pump was working and there were no fuel line issues from the tank. Any chance of fuel geling where you live?

For what it's worth, I had one fail in my former '01 with no warning, codes or symptoms. Just shut off at 50 mph.
