Well guys, it's alive It really lit a fire under Bill's old '89... ... ..... I couldn't help but to LMAO and ROtF while ole Bill climbed down from the truck to clean out his shorts after he blew his first turbo hose :-laf



I'm going to say a prayer for his safe return during the long drive home.



I imagine he'll be taking it pretty easy on the go peddle untill he's safe at home again.

Now that is the the biggest understatement of the new year!!! For you guys that haven't done any internal mods to your VE other than Bob's script for power mods, you have no idea what holding on for dear life is :-laf . The first test drive, I couldn't really watch any gauges, except for the tach cause the truck roared so hard. It used to pull hard til about 2500 or so, it just roared on past that, I got off of it about 3500 or so cause I didn't know the hilly and windy strech of road. I think Scott was holding on and just watching the road too, he was supposed to watch my pyro and boost, we assigned gauges to each other to watch :-{} . The second test drive after backing the fuel screw out one turn, is where I blew my first ever intercooler boot/hose. Scott could be seen rolling and laughing in the parking lot as I stopped and check to see if I still had a turbo left, thought I just blew the turbo out the stacks. Then another scarey moment was when Scott was playing with the throttle at the pump and I was watching the tach inside the cab, he revs it up to 4000!!! , oh my I was thinking as I never seen it that high. . guess its time for 60# valve springs, head studs, etc etc... I'll post numbers later, as the roads were wet all the way home and I wanted to at least make it there, and stay on the highway- read not go sideways at 65mph. BTW I drove the 89 alone to Scotts house.

Heheheh! Keep an eye on your turbo for leaking oil. I have never blown a boot yet, that didn't take the turbo with it, in a week or less.

FWIW: I blew apart a couple intercooler pipes when putting da house through sea trials. NOT a pleasant experience. So it goes when you have to make up you own plumbing and dont have the luxury of fancy expensive gadgets like beading tools. :{

If there is room at the end of the male fitting, you could either put two small weld beads (dots) on the tube 180 apart and clamp behind them... or put two small round/pan head screws instead and clamp behind them.

That should keep the hose from blowing off.

You can also make the beads out of epoxy (ie JB weld)

Hey, can I get one of them thar fancified, built up pumps? Mine has packed its bags, aint quite headed south, but is well on its way. Sorry, I dont have a core to send in at this time.



BTW- Has anyone paid any attention to any numbers, i. e. , boost, pyro? I'd like to get an intercooler into mine, but havent worked the hours reaquired to afford such luxuries.

DP, heck just pull the pump, send it to Greenleaf, and drive around in the girlfriends vehicle. He shouldn't have it that long. Although I think northern Ohio got hit with an ice storm and GL hasn't been on here for awhile. I'll get some numbers once we get some dry road conditions. Also my boost gauge fitting at the motor leaks real bad, we found this out when we tested the system for leaks. Also my IC is a leaky one too. I have a new boost tubing kit to install soon. Then it will be time for my custom cut cone and some more fuel . . As far as my old pump goes, I plan to keep it as a spare and maybe do all the stuff to it GL did to the other one.

This "IS" an old worn out pump!!! Just imagine what it would do if'n it was a fresh reman!!!!! :--)











Bill gave me an old VE outta a '93 and told me to tinker with it some and maybe he'd install it on the 89 some day... ... . just for fun... ... . I simply listened to what other guys had been doing to their VE's (among other things) and sorta "combined" all them mods into one singe package. From the look on Bill's face as he headed outta town... . it must have worked.



I have no way to "test" a pump prior to installation on an engine other than the local "Pump Shop". They need some serious cash to "test" one of my experimental pumps So Bill thought it a good ide'r to test this pump "ON" his truck! :-laf



I have two more pumps to tinker with... . if they both prove out, well, we'll just have to see what come about. I'd like to have the pump shop test one and compare it to OEM specks.

You mean 300k miles on an original VE means its worn out? Yep thats what I gave him to tinker with, had faith enough to drive a 300k mile experimental VE home.
