EXt. warrenty

I actualy picked up my new truck on my birthday oct 11. one hellava b. d. present. Any how . . has anyone opted to take the extended warrenty. what are your opinons.

It might not be recommended by Consumers Reports and other bean counting experts but I took the extended warranty. Not worried about the cummins but about the DODGE. Last 2 cars I have owned, the extended warranty more than paid for itself. Taurus kind of came unglued at 76,000 and the 99 Intrepid was a mess from 50, 000 on. Finally traded it for a Toyota.

Anyway, if by some miracle I do not use the extended warranty by the end of it's term I get a full refund of the purchase price. It is a warranty pushed by the dealer, not the Chrysler extended warranty. It is really up to you, I like having the protection.

I got my dealer to take about $340 off the 7/100K $100 deductable Chrysler Service Contract. Final cost was $1995. I think I will feel more comfortable having it, and will hopefully take the "got to get a new vehicle" syndrome away the first time I have a $500 - $1000 repair bill. I plan to keep this one a long time.

I'm on my 3rd Dodge truck now(plus one car now in a junk yard after being rolled over). Bought them all brand spanking new off the show room floor and without any extended warranty. I got over 200,000 miles of trouble free operation out of each of the first 2 and expect even more with this one. I think if you take care of it and there are no major problems to start with i. e. not a lemon then in my most humble opinion the extended warranty is simply a cash cow for the dealers and Chrysler. Statistics would likely prove that as well. Of course if you get unlucky and have that one in a thousand trucks that goes sour late in life you'd have to foot the bill. I think your ability to do repairs yourself should weigh in as well
