Wondering if I should extend warranty coverage on my 2014 3500 Cummins/Aisin. If so do I just go through Dave Smith where I bought it? There is a dealer in Michigan that sells warranty extensions that looks legit but I have not compared price.

I'm going through the same question with the 2500 CTD I am picking up next week...
Having spent my working life dealing with more than my share of aftermarket warranties my only advice is this, OEM!
If you want a warranty, buy whatever Ram sells... Forget about anything not Ram/Chrysler!
No matter what the savings, no matter what the dealer promises, remember that you want the Ram factory extended warranty or nothing.
That's my friendly advice for the day anyway.

I'm sure you will get a lot of different replys and I don't usually buy extended warranties myself but I did on my 14 RAM 3500. To many electronics and very expensive parts that can go down.
I'm sure you can buy one from Dave Smith, just know the price is negotiable.

Thanks to posts on here, I bought from the dealer in Michigan. Substantially less than from my local dealer. And the paperwork came direct from Ram.

Thats the thing, the one I am looking at is through Ziegler in Michigan and they are a Ram/Chrysler dealer so it sounds legit and a lot of people in these online forums have had a good experience. You can go to any Dodge/Ram/Chrysler dealer for service. Anyone have a bad experience with these guys?

I don't believe it's worth paying extra for the extended warranty, but if you do, remember that the price is highly negotiable. I purchased the extended warranty for my 05 at a much lower price than was originally quoted I never used it once however.

My wife paid for the extended warranty on my 2015 when we took delivery. After I looked under the hood I'm glad she did.

I pulled the trigger with Ziegler. 8/120,000 miles for $2555 so it was the best deal I found by quite a bit. Hopefully I won't need it anyway.

I got a 8/120 from Rodney two weeks ago on my two year old 2014 with 30,000 miles on it for $2210. He has sold many warrantees to members on the EcoDiesel forum. He seems to have the best pricing around. His number is 888 352 6103

What Bruce says. We bought an extended Warranty on our 1992 B-150 Ram Van and on our 2004 Fleetwood Motor Home. They both paid for themselves.

Should the questions be asked,

Who bought extended warrantees ?
Who has used them and/or made out by having them ?

Over the years I have bought but a couple extended warrantees and had never used them. So I don't anymore.

You are correct, no question! The only people who make out with these warranties are the insurance companies who sell them and the few "unlucky" people who actually need them...
That is simply how insurance works, isn't it?

I purchased a Ford factory warranty extension for my 2010 F-150 just as I got to the end of basic coverage by mileage, as I had a feeling... I believe that at that time, I paid about $2700 dollars for factory, bumper to bumper warranty extension, through 7 years or 125,000 miles. My Ford went on to suck up more than $10,000 of warranty repairs during that time!
I'm glad I had the coverage!

If you can absorb the hit, if it happens, there is no question that the odds favor not purchasing the warranty. The problem is that so many of the systems in modern vehicles are simply so expensive that these warranty extensions are like having insurance!
Better to have it than not!

Also, if you never need a repair, you are entitled to the principle back I believe...not a bad deal.

My sold 2006 F-350 6.0 had an extended warranty. Paid approx. $1700 for it. The warranty paid for $6,000.00 in warranty repairs. So, when I purchased my 2012 Ram, I did opt for the warranty. I purchased the Chrysler Maximum Care 7/year, 70,000 mile warranty for $1500.00 at time of purchase. To date, I have not needed to use it. If I do not use the warranty, so be it. But I do like the peace of mind having the warranty provides. I see both sides However, since I do not have mad mechanical skills and extra deep pockets full of cash, I feel the extended warranties are not an evil thing. If I don't use the extended warranty, that means I have a pretty reliable trouble free truck, which is more than I could say of my 2006 6.0.

I put so many miles on one (30,000+ year) that it is not really worth it unless it is really a POS I am driving. I have never bought one. None of the available warranties would have covered any repairs when I needed it anyway.

Ha, 30K a year, I remember my first part time job. I put 53K miles on last year. That's just to and from work, not including my time off driving. My extended warranty has paid for itself twice over now.

I picked up my Ram 2500 Laramie CC/LB IL-6 CTD today.Whoo Hooo 9 miles on the clock. They even sold it to me with a full tank of DEF and a full tank of Diesel.
I paid cash for my truck. When I was talking to the finance manager, he kept trying to sell me a 7/70 Extended Warranty. He kept changing to subject about what it covered and what it did not cover. He kept saying I would get a discount $2450.00 is no discount to me, for purchasing it right then and there, the warranty supposedly covered dumper to dumper, the only thing it did not cover was Fuel and brake pads. He was really insistent, I read a pamphlet about the warranty and it seems that by buying that warranty, my 5 yr.100k warranty becomes no existent and there was a $100. Deductible. I could get a better warranty from Good Sams Club. This was not a Chrysler Warranty I asked if it was the MaxCare Warranty and he said no. I will call Chrysler Cuss Some-More Service and look for the warranty.

Anyone care to advise what they have paid for a Mopar Vehicle Protection plan extended warranty? Are these negotiable like the various aftermarket extended warranties? I wasn't interested when the dealer offered one, but after consideration, it might be worth it. My credit union that I financed through was offering an extended warranty, but after reading through the literature and some online reviews, I was pretty turned off that repairs would be made using a replacement part of their choosing. Essentially, non OEM parts in reading between the lines. Just curious what I can reasonably expect to pay for the Mopar plan if others have experience with it.

Best price that found in January this year was $2210 for a MaxCare 8/120, but my truck has 30,000 miles and two years old. Under 1 year and under 12,000 miles was $2060.
