I have recently started having a problem with my 2000 QC , When I start it it , it takes several revolutions before it fires up . This does not happen every time , it happens when hot or cold . This appears to have started after a lift pump replacement . I have a pressure gauge which reads 14psi idle and 10psi wot . It doesn't seem to make a diff. whether I let it build pressure or not and I have not got a check engine light on . The gauge is a electric dipricol and the schrader valve is removed at the filter fitting, gauge was installed after lift pump died , has anybody run into this problem before?

When I first put my gauges on mine acted the same. If you are using some hose between the pump and sending unit, it could be air in the line. Loosen the sending unit a few turns and bump the starter so it fills with fuel. Then tighten it.

You can also try this.

Before starting it, bump the starter and let it cycle-28 seconds or so- then so if it starts better. If so it is air causing the issue.

Let us know.

I have almost the same problem with my '99, but seems to happen more hot than cold. I have not been able to tie the occurrence to any event. Fuel pressure good, no codes, no leak that I can find. I suspect it may be the beginnings of a VP44 failure...

You may be sucking a tiny amount of air from one (or more) of the fittings you've changed or moved during the LP swap. Try parking the truck with the front facing downhill, let it sit for a while and start it. If it starts fine, try facing the truck uphill and let it sit for a while then start it, if then it cranks more before starting you are sucking air. Or just go over your fittings and tighten them and skip the suggestion above. Note, the fittings may not show any signs of leakage, but can still suck enough air to cause what your describing.

I just posted on this problem, under Trouble Starting. That's exactly what mine seems to be doing. Not all the time; however, when it has happened, every time it was when my truck was parked in my driveway, nose up. I did a service on the truck on Saturday, including fuel filter change. Had a little trouble starting right after that, but no issues after that. Yesterday when I started it I noticed I only had 5 psi on the FP gauge. After running for a couple of minutes, however, it went up to 11-12 psi. If there's air getting in the system I don't know where it could be getting in from.

The large O ring on the filter could be damaged. Somehow, in changing mine one time I either pinched it or it got/had a small nick in it and created the same FP scenario.
