I've got a Sony laptop with XP. Need more memory so I'm seeking opinions on external hard drives. Should I do the firewire thing or go USB? I've got a slot on the side for a firewire card, not sure if I've got the high speed USB or not, puter is about 3 years old. I'm not real puter literate so type slowly. Thanks!

i've got a maxtor 80gb external hd on my pc. it works pretty good. it's running off my usb slow. 0 [it can run 2. 0 but i don't got that]

Do you need more memory, or more hard drive space? They aren't the same thing. If your computer is running slow, or locking up all the time, you probably need more memory. You can get that at places like Circuit City, or Best Buy, or places that sell computers. If you just need more hard drive space because you are running out, then an external hard drive should work fine.

EZ Quest

I have a Sony laptop running XP also. I bought an EZ Quest Cobra 200g Firewire/USB, and it's great. I went with it because I run music editing software and you need a high rpm speed. (7200rpm). It's one of the HD's my company recommends, we don't see many problems with them. But there are less expensive and smaller capacitiy out there. Hope this helps.

p. s. I've also had good luck with Iomega Zip and Jazz drives, but that was only for photo storage.
