I know everyone is adding additional oil when servicing the trans.

Im doing mine tomorrow and want to know how much extra everyone is adding. I will be driving it up on blocks on the drivers side, not removing the shift tower (I finally got it to stop leaking).

I'm just ready to do my 125K trans fluid change (#5)... I haven't overfilled on any of the previous changes (4, so far) but have added a trans fluid filter with an extra qt. of fluid. So far, have had a fare amount of brass in the filter but not excessive and no steel/iron (except for the fuzz on the magnet). I will post in the next couple of weeks on what I find at 125K... . I hoping for not much!

mickey you should overfill by one quart above the drain plug this is to raise the level of oil to the bearings on the input shaft . standard is saying the same go's for the g56

I added 7 quarts to mine when I refilled it. I called 2 major suppliers which are TDR supporters. They both rebuild NV-5600’s. One outfit said they recommend 7 quarts the other said 8 quarts in the NV-5600. I ask them if they ever had seals leak as a result, they said no the fluid level is still below the front and rear seal.

I run a FastCooler on one side of the 5600, and a filter setup on the other - they each add capacity, and I'm running a bit less than 8 quarts of the standard OEM lube.

the height of the oil is more important than the quantity in the 5600 i have the fast cooler's on both sides of one of my trucks i fill it untill the oil runs out the fill plug and add one more quart. this is needed to lube the input bearing when pulling grades

With around 7 to 8 quarts in with Fast Coolers, the fluid level was still below the seals in my NV5600 when we had it out yesterday... nothing ran out either end and the tailshaft end is open when the transfercase is removed.

Thankyou gentlemen... ... ... ... ...

I was able to get an additional 3/4 Qt the way the truck wound up leaning. I'll try this quantity out for size.

Thanks again.

pour it in the top???

I noticed no one mentioned that you can pull the stick out and just pour it in the top hole. Much less messy and it forces you to clean up that coffee spill in the console when it's out!

I fill with 6 qts (also have on side PTO filter kit).

Steved: I also have two fast coolers how many quarts do you think it will take to get it up the bearing level? I have been running 8 quarts also with two coolers sounds like it might be still to little. . kts
