Is anybody using the PE-EZ in an otherwise totaly stock truck?

I'm still having a hard time doing what I know is right (transmission first). I stubbornly want to have the power, without spending the money (I don't have much to spend on the truck). I will be getting the transmission serviced in the next few weeks, to get ready for towing season. Will increasing the line pressure, only, be enough protection?

Has anybody else tried to cheat "just-a-little" and what have been the consequences? Remember, this is the only mod. for now, I PROMISE I will do the transmission next (if necessary). I just want to be able to go above 60 MPH on the local grades (Michigan hills). A few horror stories would be enough to convince me, but I'd also like to hear any sucess stories from people using only the box.

Do you have the 3:54s or 4:10s? Do you race everyone or do you drive normal. (only your trannie and you know) I don't know if just an EZ will destroy your trannie. How big a tow will you be doing?

I have the 4. 10's. I pull a 30ft travel trailer, weighing around 6,500 lbs, full. The pedal has never touched the floor, but I have "squeezed-it-on" a few times, merging with traffic, and pulling the trailer up hills.

Get one Boonsur, it should be fine if your line pressure is up where it needs to be (about 62PSI). It will make a world of difference on the hills.

With the combo you have and the way you drive, you will be fine. You will really enjoy the EZ. Check out Carl's web site for the best price on EZs. I think they are now below 500 bucks! Have fun!

I'm getting REAL tempted. Still hoping to hear some actual testimonials.

Where is the newest special on Carl's page through? There is still a special on the site for the EZ from DTT. I would probably be willing to spend a couple extra bucks to support Bill K and the services he has provided us (including personal emails to me). I'll probably end up buying VB/TC from him someday anyway.

besides my lift kit, bigger tires, & swap to 4:10 gears I put the EZ on before I did the DTT vb/tc swap and it was tremendous what that little box does for our trucks--get it from Bill and get his vb & tc also---you'll be very, very pleased---chris

I ran the EZ back when it first came out, and that was on a totally stock truck. Running empty it was fun. Once a load was on it, you knew right away it wasn't the same. The transmission seemed to slip most of the new additional power. Especially if you needed to accelerate in a slight hurry merging and such. I'm well past stock now, and ran the EZ alone for about 4 months.
I installed Bill's transmission mods, now I install them and sell them, along with other stuff I make for off-road trucks. Great products, and the EZ is also one heck of a product.

I have had the EZ installed for about 10,000 miles now. I haven't towed anything besides a friends car. I do load upto 3000 lbs. in the bed on any given day. The extra power comes in handy when you need to jump on the highway here in Denver. My transmission has held up so far. I have even been known to do some burnouts whenever there is a FlowerChoke in my presence.

Next mod will be the transmission.

We have two 2001's, both completely stock. One is a short bed 4 x 4 2500, the other is a 4 x 4 3500. Both quad cab.

I have the DD torque module installed on my 2500 ETH/DEE using the timing only mildest setting.

I have the Edge EZ box installed on the 3500 ETC/automatic also on the mildest timing only setting.

The two boxes are externally identical, obviously made by the same plant.

Both boxes increase power slightly on this setting, but more importantly to me, the mileage definitely shows a slight improvement. We keep to the drop fuel records.

Perhaps we could get more power with the more aggressive settings, but since mileage is more important, this is where we are.

E mail me if you want additional information.

Harry

boonsur -

I'm currently running an EZ with a bone stock truck. Empty to about 6,000 pounds in tow, the truck does great. A heavy load is another story. I had just over 10k behind me a couple of weeks ago when I slipped the TC while in 3rd gear lockup after I goosed it on a hill (EZ on most aggressive setting). I need to check my stock line pressures - I'm guessing they are low. In any event, I'm gonna get Bill K's TC and VB as soon as possible.

The different EZ settings determine at what boost level the additional fueling is added. I think the timing is the same on all three settings, but I'm not positive. Call Brett at Edge to verify.

As long as you don't tow heavy, you should be ok stock.

Steve

Do the different settings control how much hp/torque is added (by varying the timing to different degrees), or (as I think I heard) do they regulate how fast the power/boost come on. This may help the transmission, while still having all the power needed???

I'm still somewhat new to this, and tend not to tow much heavy (dragging people out of the snow, hauling wood, etc).

For a manual transmission, is the EZ an issue? TC stands for torque converter, right? This is for the auto folks. What about manual?

The manuals will be okay with just the EZ.
The max power is the same on all settings, the jumper just delays when the fueling kicks in. The timing is supposed to be the same throughout.
If you see some of the dyno runs, you'll see the max HP and torque figures don't change on the different settings.
