I'm starting to think the design team who created the air box designed it more for turbo noise reduction rather than air flow. Even simple mods seem to make the truck run better, but increase the turbo whistle (Which is fine with me :))

1) Pulled snorkle between box and inner fender to get rid of loud howling noise around 2000 rpm. Side effect was slightly better acceleration in 3dr-6th gears. Also slight increase in turbo noise.

2) Replaced stock air filter with AFE and drilled 1. 5" holes in bottom of airbox. Noticable increase in pulling power in 4th-6th gears with noticible increase in turbo whine.

Seems kinda silly to try and quiet a motor that sounds like a bucket of rocks bouncing around by quieting the turbo :D

Love to hear the Cummins sing!

I replaced mine with the K&N-0880 cone shaped filter. It fits directly on the end of the flexible turbo hose. I love the sound of the turbo whine. I'm looking for a second car, one requirement, must have a turbo!!! :D

Do a search on the K&N-0880, you'll find MANY threads discussing it. I'm going to look at the AFE equivalent also, when Smokingdiesel.com gets them in.

Some members have even tested the plumbing of those holes. They have run hoses from the airbox to the cowling and/or to the front air dam.

I have stuck with the scotty system.

Just put an aFe in this past Sat. that I got from SmokinDiesel.com. The part number is 20-40044 for the equivalent of the 0880. aFe does not offers socks at this time, so I'm going to put a K&N on it.

Is there any difference from the K&N? Dunno. Seems a *bit* quiter than CSCpushers '00 with the 0880 and sock. But maybe that is just due to my Dashmat.

AFE filter in Psychotty

I have had my AFE in the Psychotty air box now for three weeks. This filter is much stronger than the K&N. I have been able to seal the back side of the PSA and the filter is doing great. AFE filter are heavier constructed than the K&Ns.
