Just replaced the factory batteries at the 2. 5 yr / 48K mile mark; seems early but the electrical/charging system checks out good with 125 amps under load & 43 amps at idle. Optimas aren't cheap!

Also, continue to see P1693 > IAT sensor receiving insufficient voltage intermittently, in spite of applying the good advice of some members, in re-coating the pins in the sensor with dielectric grease. Is this a signal to replace the sensor @ $40 or to take a hard look at the wiring harness?

if i have to buy batteries for my tahoe before i sell her, i probably will pick up a pair of fleetguard 950cca's [150 reserve] from the local truck center. they are like $70-$75 CDN each, but like $20-$30 CDN cheaper than the costco 875cca's i have in her now. .

just wondering if they will fit though

Does anyone use a diesel truck large size battery (one only). I would like to put one dead center of bed up against the cab and make new cables. The starter wire would be real short and the extra weight in the bed would make it ride better. I would like to put my air compressor where the drivers side battery currently is. Any thoughts on this??

emarsh, I relocated my batteries, built a box and mounted them on the pass side frame rail under the bed. Balances out the weight of the fuel tank, doesn't use up bed space. I went with a pair of Optimas since they are truely maintenance free and the location doesn't lend itself to regular maintenance. Getting the batteries out from under to hood frees up a ton of space, you'll like it. Every one of my tractors that had duel batteries has been replaced with one large Interstate, no problems.

One 8D battery should work. I think the Amish have them around here $110. 00 each. I need to get one for my OC-12 Oliver/Cletrac dozer.

illflem,

any chance you could post pics of your battery box? I've thought about doing the same thing. You know - plagirism is the ultimate form of flattery.....
