Just spent 30 mins with the dealership mechanic and it seems the cold idle engine warming TSB is not for HO engines. We looked and looked and it was only available for ETC's :(

I also wondered about this, but did not ask the dealer if there was a difference for the ETH's. The TSB does say ALL 24V, so where did you find a reference to only the ETC engine?? I was a little concerened that I might end up with an ETC ECM afterward, but how can you really tell. The truck still runs good.

It appears that there is more than ETH owners that have had the flash done without it appearing to work, so I don't think the ETH is the problem. I do wish somebody could confirm that the same software will work on ALL motors though.

I haven't started mine when it was cold enough to see if it works yet.

We searched the DRBII data base and found the TSB (cold idle) for ETC's, when we searched the ETH (HO's) the TSB was NOT listed. If anyone can help figure this out let me.

I would be concerned about having this TSB performed on my truck. It looks like they did not do a very good job of engineering this TSB since it has not worked yet on anyones truck. Now this makes me wonder what it will do to the engine if it ever did work, since fuel will only be going to 3 cylinders (how much thought was put into that idea, and what does it do to the long term durability of the engine) ? I am going to approach this the old fashioned way and plug my truck in.

mass confusion...

I have an HO and my dealer performed the upgrade. It hasnt been cold enough around here to find out if it works though. Stay tuned.

Does anyone know the details associated with activating the fast idle feature using the DRB? The guy at the local shop didn't have any idea that that needed to be done - he only did the reflash. Anyone have any hints I can give him on how to turn the fast idle feature on? Thanks.

cold wx warm up

As long as the shop "enabled" the

software it is sappose to turn on

when the truck is started, in neutral or park

the parking brakes is on, the water temp is

160 or below (also heard 140) and the

throttle is at zero percent and the outside

air temp is 40 or below.

I have heard 2 different setting on the water

and outside air temps.

I also heard from Dodge that it read the battery

temperature for it's outside air temp.

What ??? I called Cummins and they said it picks it up from the sensor after the heating

grid on the intake air... . who knows...

Mine worked one time. it was really slick.

since then it has not turned on.

it has been cold enough on many mornings.

Good luck with yours, I hope it works.

Bad air temp. sensor. MAYBE...

I had this done on my HO and did check with the dealer that it was the version for the HO engine. Dealer checked and said the feature was truned on.

I was looking at the other thread that has been going on for some time about inaccurate air temp. sensor. The reading when cold was not telling the control cold enough. (think I said that right. ) I think I am going to get a new temperature sensor. Then the next morning it is cold enough and I have some time; If the system dosen't go to high idle, then I will change the sensor, wait a few minets and then try the system again.

Can sombody tell me the part # for the air temp sensor.

Just another idea.

MSCHEVY: Can you provide any information off your work order that would help us find the one for the HO? My dealer does not have any info for the TSB for HO's. Thanks

Texas Diesel: I will get the work order when I get home tonight, and bring it into work tomarrow. They also left a copy of the officail TSB on the passanger seat when I picked up the truck. I will look at that to see if it specifies the progran # differance between ETC & ETH.

Mike.

Texas Diesel: I have the work order and the TSB, I don't see any specific program number for the reflash. (Don't exactly know what I am looking for. )

At lunch I will look at the stickers they placed on the truck, stating that a autorized software update had been performed. It must say on there what the update is. (So I would think anyway. )

I can scan the work order and post it, it does show the VIN and that the reflash was performed, under warrenty. Let me know.

Cold wx warm up

Long story short. My brother is the maintenance manager

for a company in Florida. They have a bunch of our trucks.

Anyway, They were having some training on how to service

the Dodge / Cummins today and he had the trainer who is

a Dodge Representitive call me to talk over my problem.

remember it won't idle up when cold. had tsb performed etc...

he talked to me for about 30 min and then said to just

lemon law the truck!!!! YIKES!

He also said that Dodge is having alot of problem with the

speed sensors.

My mechanic refuses to change it because the test say it's ok.

Well how can it be ok if you clear all the codes from the computers

back the truck up about 5 feet and the code reappears!

They want the truck AGAIN Monday to work on it.

I think on Monday I will go see a lawyer instead. It has been

in 6 times for this same problem.

What is so sad is I REALLY LOVE this truck! :(

PKozlowski: Have you changed the IAT (intake air temp) sensor. There have been quite a few people finding them inaccurate. The resistance reading is not telling the ECM that it is a cold as it really is. For ~$20 you could make one last try. I plan on trying this to my truck but the weather warmed up and I have to wait for another cold morning.

Cold wx

Mschevey

That is just another thing.

Dodge mechanic say it read the OAT from the battery!

What! ??? makes no sense to me. .

I call Cummins and they say no, it read it from the intake.

Ok, where exactly is the sensor I ask. They can't tell me

(granted I haven't even looked. could probably find it in

about 5 seconds)

I can't get them to change any parts!

He says they're all showing ok when he tests them. :-(

I would change it myself but it's under warranty.

if I touch it I own it according to Dodge / Cummins.

This is pretty agrevating (spelling). I wish it was summer

so I could go pull the camper and not worry about this! :)

PKozlowski: The sensor is located behind the fuel filter very close to the firewall, Just behind the MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor. Warrenty wise if you change this and it fixes the problem, then DC should reimburse you for the sensor. Otherwise changing the sensor will not void your warranty, only thing is you have to pay for it. Only tool required is a 22. 5mm socket (I think that is the size).

Cold wx

Went to the dealer. talked to the head of the

service department. Told him what was going on

and that I wanted the darn speed sensor replaced !

After what? 5 tries to get this right and the sensor

keeps putting the same code in the computers

change the stupid sensor!

Well he ordered it FINALLY!

Well we'll see what happens with the

new one installed. They didn't have any instock so

I'll let you know what happens once it is replaced.

Sure hope I am right about this or I'm going to feel like

a read idiot! hahahaha :)

ODB SCANNER TO TEST ???

Doesn't someone have an ODB scanner they can attach to their trucks to verify if these various sensors are doing what they are supposed to or not??

The software for zero speed is probably just too sensitive (built on a bench not in real life) and needs to be debounced a bit in their code.

Bummer we have to debug it in the field at our expense.

Using the stick for now but hoping the code will work out before I complete the installation of the practical solutions high idle kit (not wanting to introduce a variable for the dealer to complain about)

David

Texas Diesel: I have the scans of the TSB and the work order I will try to send them to you. If you don't get them let me know your personal e-mail address and I will send them directly to you tomarrow morning.

PKozlowski: Did you look into the IAT sensor or are you waiting till you get the new speed sensor in first?
