Who among you have replaced your factory muffler with the 3" muffler replacement pipe from Geno's or it's equivalent? Did it change the sound of your truck or just make it louder? Are you satisfied with the conversion and would you do it again? Thanks for any input.

I have installed Geno's Muffler Eliminator pipes on two trucks so far and they sound great. Louder than stock with more of that "Big Rig" sound, but not too loud. Fit was excellent and installation was a breeze. But if I had to do it again, I would just replace the muffler and resonator(I'm saying resonator assuming that you have a 24-valve Cummins) with just a straight section of 3" pipe. Less money and just as easy to install.

Best Of Luck

The pipe from Geno's is a waste of money. You can go to any muffler shop and get a 6' piece of pipe and have them swell the ends for about $15-$20.

I read in a truckin magazine on diesels that eliminating muffler may be bad because it throws off the electronics on a 24valve. Said it will be interpreted as a problem by the electronics. Magazine was reputable but very much conservative on bombing.

It doesn't upset the computer to open up the exhaust. I had my resenator and muffler replaced with a SS dynomax unit and it not only sounds great but the EGTs dropped about 75 degrees.

Huh - funny you should ask. I've been dealing with this same question this week.

I installed the Geno's pipe on my '95 (12 valve) - I thought it was great. Seemed to lower my EGT maybe a 100 degrees or so, and the sound was perfect! No power change noticed. (WAYYY too loud with the cat removed as well, so I put that back - anyone want a cat "test" pipe??)

I just installed the same Geno's pipe on my '99 (24 valve) - seems quite a bit louder than when on the 12-valve machine, probably because the resonator doesn't block as much noise as the cat did. I'm still debating on whether or not to keep it on - but the turbo noise from the exhaust is like a drug, I dunno if I can give it up!! I swear I lost some low-end and maybe a bit of mid-range as well. I don't have an EGT gauge on this machine yet to notice a temp difference.

All in all, I think the pipe is worth the money, since my local muffler shop doesn't have the 3" pipe, and since it fits perfectly. Hope that helps!
