My transmission is running about 180d while truck is not towing. Truck is stock, 160,xxx mls. Is this a normal temp? Does the fan clutch have left or right hand threads?

I hate auto's so no help there but the fan clutch on your truck is complex compared to other ones. it is electric over hydraulic operated and the only way to troubleshoot it is with a scan tool. it has all kinds of speed, temp and load sensors that store data in the ecm. before you go to far take it to a car wash and clean the radiator and coolers. sorry to hear you have a auto

Yea, auto and manual each have there pro and cons. But Thanks for the feedback on the fan clutch operation. Any idea on the thread direction? Seems not many people want to touch this subject. Maybe its old, but just looking for a little help.

Third Gen trucks have RH thread on the fan clutch.

Mike.

The trans temp is normal for this time of the year.

Fan has right hand threads. Check for P0480 and P0483 if there is a question on the fan operation.

Thanks for the feedback. Heading out on a 300m trip with 14k behind me in the morning, should be a good test. Im running the edge insight for my gauge readings. The insight was showing 220d the other day(doing some backing up), no idiot light came on. I used 4W lo and the temp went back to 205. I installed a new filter and topped off with fluid. Hope it makes it.

Just out of curiosity, in case i need to replace mine, do you have to computer flash a new fan clutch since it stores all that data?

Mike
