Our 2000 KME fire engine has the 330 HP ISC Cummins. The engine fan is a direct drive unit. It works... . too well. It takes forever for the engine to warm up and I think its way way too loud for normal driving. Would be so much quieter w/o the fan howling when driving normally.
It was an option for us to get a Horton unit. However KME didn't offer them up on paper... apparently we had to request one. And I didn't know we'd really need one. Usually they are listed in the options on commercial cab fire trucks but not the custom cab/chassis.
Only thing is when you use one on a fire truck, its supposed to be wired so it locks up when pumping so as to prevent sensor failure and overheating. No problem.
Are Hortons the only clutches available of their type? I talked with Horton but they actually don't act like they want to sell anything. They were just kinda ho-hum about helping me figure out what I needed and basically said call back when you find the part number on your own.
