Bill, Thats werd to build intake heat with no load. i thought the reason they didn't like us idling was not enough temp. I'll bet the heater was heat sink right at the turbo and not the intercooler.

I did get the thermo (inside fan) to come on today. I had just come off the freeway (with back hoe in tow 69deg) and at the end of the off ramp there was one of those long stop lights. The fan came on for 30 sec. is all and then was off.

I am really liking these fans at shut down time. I turn them both on manually and it has cooled the EGTs down alot faster.

I had a Horton on my former '92 D350 and it was surprising how little the fan operated even in the hot Texas summers while towing. The A/C made it cycle on more than the coolant temperature. The high pressure switch on the A/C would cycle the fan quite a bit while going slow in traffic. When towing on the highway even on 100 degree days, the fan actually cycled very little while traveling at 55-60 MPH. I couldn't see much improvement in the fuel mileage. I bought it for the extra cooling power which it did very well.

I just got a call from the Dodge Dealer that the Horton from MOPAR has arrived. Price was OK so I hope it's the same as the one offered by Horton. I'll let you know how it works out.

So now I have a question, for those who have put a fan in front of the whole cooling array, how much room do you have between the grill and the first cooler? I was thinking about adding a electric fan to give a little more air on those 110 deg days while towing heavy in the hills and would like to have it assist the main fan so it does not come on as much.

Judging by the stuff that came with my "Horton" kit you can buy a saddle "T" fitting that has two "Shreader" vv's. This goes in place of the normal condenser high pressure switch. Then you can fasten both the high pressure switch and a pressure switch for operating your electric fan all with no need for pump down and recharge.
This way either the water temp switch or the AC pressure switch can start your electric fan. An Air Conditioning tech. s can be more explicit. I expect you could buy this stuff from an AC shop or Horton as well.

What size wrench is needed to remove the fan?

I had a very short talk with EFE. They said an elec. fan won't outperform the stock fan. If you have any trouble with heat now - elec will be worse. Made sense to me. I figured there's a reason the stock fan takes so much hp! Just from looking at it, I'd say it's WAY more than 5000cfm! If you put enough cardboard in the right places, these cold blooded animals will warm up! And it's a lot cheaper!

The non-Dodge Cummins ECM's will turn an air powered fan on and off at idle based on the intake air temperature. Maybe somebody with a Cummins connection can find out what that temperature is? It won't help the fanless, but people with a Horton or electric fans could rig something up to lower the charge air temperature at idle. It will also turn the fan on when the e-brake turns on. I'm assuming that is to slow the truck down more, but it could also be rigged easily.

Drove around town today in 80° temps. Truck was unloaded. Radiator completely unblocked. Highest coolant temp I saw was about 160°-170°. In other words, no different than with the engine fan installed. Felt the temperature of the intake horn after a few hard runs. It was cool to the touch. The intercooler seems to be working OK, even without the fan. #ad

Bill, I still have mine off also, plenty of 75° days. My intake air temp is running hotter though if I'm not at highway speeds, around 120°. On the highway the air temp will cool to the low to mid 80°s. I still have two panels of my Lund winter front on though, coolant temp is fine.

I have both my electric fans on and running. I haven't run the A/C yet, but I have had no problem at all other wire. The big fan on the inside of the rad. is controlled by a thermostat system and set to come on at 180 deg. I installed a light under the dash to come on when the fan comes on. The fan has came on only once on it's own. I was idling ahave towing a back hoe up a long drive way getting ready to unload the back hoe and it came on ran for 30 sec. then went off.

I have then a on a manual over ride switch and use them every night at shut down to cool the EGTs.

I am looking for a 8' electric to install in front of the intercooler only(left side of the truck) and wiring it to come on as soon as the air temp get over 100 deg. I have found the sending unit and perm-a-cool builds a 8" fan but i haven't found a supplier yet that carries it.

I just got the third electric fan installed. It's an 8"er installed on the right side infront of the intercooler. I have it wired to come on at 125 deg intake temp as well as a manual over ride. It really make shut down temps drop faster.

I finally put my fan back on when I could not get by with out AC anymore intown traffic... . Late May.

I have had mine out for about a month already. Did the AC disable from Fritzs site to prevent AC compressor from kicking in.
