I just got my Fass pump ? Kit from Geno's. Going to instal it this weekend. Any tips or potential problems? For those of you having done the instal did you have to drop the tank to attach the new line?

Thanks in advance :):):)

Dropping the tank greatly simplifies FASS installation, especially with regard to disconnecting factory fuel lines from the tank "module". While the tank is down, you might consider a Vulcan Draw Straw or similar to improve fuel pick up (reduce line restriction) from the tank. Making sure the tank is as empty as possible will ease things, of course, and you might note that getting the forward strap out of the way is a b!tch, but with a die grinder and a bit of modification to the end of the strap where it bolts to the frame, it will go back in a lot easier.

Thanks for the fast feedback. How much of a PITA is it to do the instal with out dropping the tank? I have a bout 3/4 tank right now so it's going to be heavy. I just want to get the truck back on the road ASAP. I haven't been driving it much since the pressure started dropping. Did not want to do any more dammage.

I did not drop my tank and it took a little extra work ( just hard to reach to mash the clip ) to get the fuel lines loose. Other than that no problems.

Mike, I just did the install last week. I did the big line upgrade from Vulcan. I was able to reach my hands up there to disconnect the lines. I also dropped the tank to install a draw straw. I didn't have any problems with the straps. Mine is a 2002 QC, short box. The only problem is did have was breaking off a bolt on the cross member which runs under the tank. But if you don't drop the tank, then you don't have to worry about this.

If you don't want to completely drop the tank, you can loosen the nut on the forward most strap bolt until it is almost off, but not quite, then take the rear one all the way off and support the rear end of the tank with a jack. That will let the tank pivot down enough that you can get to the lines very easily. BUT if you are doing the draw straw, you must drop the tank because if you just pivot it down, you don't have enough room to raise the fuel tank module up and out of the tank w/o hitting the underside of the bed. Yes, I tried it, and that's how I know and how come I ended up having to drop the tank.

Here in the Northeast, corrosion of the 90-degree elbows that exit the fuel module is quite a problem and I wasn't able to get the OEM fuel line off w/o cracking the elbow. . which ended up being a good thing in my case because it was damned near ready to rot through and I would have had to replace it at some point eventually. And with the Vulcan draw straw, the factory elbows get eliminated anyhow

Sorry I am rambling.

Thanks for all the information. I don't expect that the straps or the elbows will be all that messed up. One benni of being an AZ truck:). I really hope to do the instal with out dropping the tank. It's pretty full. Any other issues? How long did the whole process take you? I was wanting to complete it on Sat. afternoon. Is that good or should I plann on Sunday as well?

Well, if you bake in the Law of Mechanics which says if something can go wrong, it will, then you should be able to get it done in an afternoon without too much of an issue. I am an engineer by trade and always take things really slowly and carefully so I don't screw anything up (although that happens anyhow... ), but as with most things, if I did it a 2nd time, it would go much faster.

If you're going to have to drill holes make sure you get a good drill! I had to take an extra day to run around and borrow a different drill since the first one i borrowed didn't have the guts to do it.

I did the Fass 95 installation without dropping the tank... ..... only problem in the entire job was getting the forward CLIP on the top of the tank to release. My poor old arthritic hand (right one) hurt for a week... ... ... .
