Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) FASS install problem

I am in the process of installing the FASS system and have run into a clearance problem between the filters and the mounting bracket. When I tightened up the bracket to the pump I found out that I couldnt remove the one filter. It was caught under the bracket. I am in the process of grinding down a groove in the bracket to allow the filter to spin on and off. Just hope I do not have to remove too much material as this is one hefty system. Will advise as I go along with project. Has anyone else had this problem.

I did not have any issues with mine. My bracket extension was no where near my filters. I remember taking the filters off to tighten the bolts (nuts) on the bracket, though.

Maybe I wasnt real clear on what was causing the problem. It is the bracket that attaches directly to the pump with the four 1/4 inch bolts. When I tightened it down against the pump it caught the flange of the filter and I couldnt get the filter to turn at all. I had to take bracket clear off and start over and then I couldnt get filter to start on the threads so I am grinding a groove in the bracket to give clearance for the filter.

Had the same issue. . put a washer under the two bolts closest to the filter that is rubbing and locktight them. .

I loosened the bolts and there was enough play to allow me to get clearance about the thickness of a dollar bill.

The first time we tightened down the bracket we could not get the filter to screw on- after we removed filter and loosened up 4 bolts we could pull filter assembly forward and then tighten bolts back up. Now there is a small gap (enough to not make contact with filter) between front filter and bracket.

OK I was able to work the bracket enough to get clearance for the filter BUT now another Question When I finally was able to get the OEM fuel line disconnected the plastic tabs that hold it on - stayed on the fuel tank connection. Does that plastic tab have to come off before hooking up the new snap on fitting. I would guess that it has to come off as there doesnt feel like there is anything for the new snap on to connect with. Anybody have an answer

I spent over an hour trying to install with the tab left on. I finally got so mad and frustrated I ripped it off. The new one went on without a problem. Oo.

Thats kind of what I figured but in trying to keep all the stock parts intact in case I need or want to go back to basic I didnt want to tear that plastic snap off of there. I suppose you could replace it at the dealer if necessary.

I left the plastic clip on the tank and reused the stock line clam off of the factory lines. .

Thanks for the offer Brad. I was able to get it working with a little help from a grinder. Not to sure but what I could have probably made it with a little wiggling of the bracket before tightening it down.

But it will work now. I should be able to get the rest of install done sometime today if no further questions.

Its on the truck and running. Shows 18# at idle. I want to thank everyone that responded with help and suggestions. It took a while but I believe It was a pretty good install. Will take for test ride tomorrow as it is too cold and snowy here in the banana belt tonight for a test. Oo. Oo. Oo.
