I had toy'd with the idea of heating the fuel for better mileage. When I researched out the idea and contacted Bosh about the VP, they came back with a warning about not heating the fuel for everyday driving. They say that heating the fuel will create problems with the VP-44 as it is designed to be cooled by the fuel.

I would think that in extremely cold weather it would not be a problem. I have been in -20 for a solid week at a time and never had any problem. During that time I ran a 32 oz bottle of Power Service to help keep the fuel from gelling.

If the VP would stand up to the heating of the fuel, I would love to heat the fuel as you can get a 30% increase in economy.

:)

On the FASS, there are ports to run heated water through it, from your heater lines on the truck, if you need heated fuel for cold weather.

One thing I HATE  about the FASS is the fact that you can't fuel up while the truck is running. On hot days I like to keep the truck running with the A/C on. If you do stand back because the fuel will explode  out of the fill neck like a volcano. This is due to where the return line is located.

I'm not all that familiar with the kit that is included with the FASS system, but All you need to do is install a wye fitting. The T fitting is non directional which allows the fuel to flow back up the fill neck. The wye fitting eliminates that possibility. I've one with my Preporator system and can leave the truck running and fill up with no problem at all.

You should be able to get one in brass or galvanized at an industrial hardware store (Graingers, McMaster Carr, McFadden Dale, etc... . )

Preperator did his homework and specifically put in the design to have the return go into the large fill hose with a turndown pipe. This was part of his original design. ;)
