A "2-micron nominal" filter means almost nothing - it just says that "this filter will trap some particles as small as 2-micron". A "2-micron absolute" filter is rated to trap almost everything (98%?) 2-microns and larger.
The best filters are the ones that have ratings like "2-microns at XXX% efficiency". One of the reasons I went with Stanadyne is they actually provide a plot of particle size vs. removal efficiency. Fleetguard also tends to be pretty trustworthy with their ratings.
