Ok folks,

Since spring is here, I am going to kick this off. One of my favorite camp grounds is Fun Valley just outside Southfork, Co. They have around 500 campsites on 165 acres. Trout ponds all thru the grounds that are fed by the south fork of the Rio Grande.

No computers. No reservations. Just show up and find a spot. Great food. Use to not take credit cards(may have changed by now) just write a check when you leave.

Great food. Wonderful people.

mi dos centavos... Oo.

Now, what is your favorite hide out??

I suppose our favorite is Thousand Trails/NACO Hershey, PA. Nothing special about it, just a nice place to stay.

Door County WI. is our favorite destination for camping in 40 years of marriage we have been there a minimum of 20 times. Use to camp in the state park in Fish Creek, but now we stay at the Wagon Wheel campground with our 5er. This campground has full hooks were the state park has only electric at a few sites.

My vote is for Dad's RV Park in Victoria, Texas - - - Nothing fancy, but friendly people, a good breakfast on Saturday AM, much to do and see in the area you park on a concrete pad, I first went there to set up cataract surgery at a well respected eye center, but the best part is give 'em a $1 and you can wash your truck, for $2 you can wash your trailer. Not many like that.

Watchman campground in Zion park. Electrical hookups only, but the spaces are fairly roomy especially along the Virgin river. Very quiet with lots of trees. Plenty to do there with the shuttle system leaving every 12 minutes or so for canyon sightseeing.

I too vote for Dads. My daughter lives in Victoria, so I stay there fairly often. You missed telling of the best part, that cafe at the edge of the park, you can walk to for a meal, perhaps that is the one you were speaking of for breakfast?

Love Fun Valley, that breakfast buffet is a killer, Can't get enough of the biscuits and grave with bacon. Another place I like is Washout park in Ewing Nebraska. Park is not too fancy but has the essentials. Great host, free coffee and round table discussion in the morning with the locals. bg

Calliham state park on Choke Canyon reservoir (between Corpus and SA) Deer, turkey and javelinas are protected and roam the park. Really cool with the grandkids. Fishing is pretty good also.

In Oregon, any state park on the coast.

Wind River Range, WY :)

I visited Green River Lakes (if I recall the name correctly) several years ago which is north of Pinedale and the headwaters of the Green River, Square Top Mtn in the distance. There was a campground there, do you know of this campground and if accessible by RV's? I used to backpack back into the Winds 20 years ago, way back into Titcomb Basin. Got stopped by waist deep snow one year in July and Island Lake was still frozen over.

Where do you go in the Wind River Mtns?

My favorite campground is in the Carson National Forest called Conjilon Lakes, which is 10,000 feet in elevation. There are three small lakes called Lower Lake, Middle Lake and Upper Lake. Best fishing is in the Upper Lake. It's near Chama, NM not far from the Colorado stateline, which is not far from South Fork, CO.

Chama, NM is another interesting place with lots of good camping and excellent fishing along the Chama River. Chama is the home to one of the best narrow gauge Railroads anywhere in the country. It's the Cumbres and Totec Narrow Gauge Senic Railroad

Hmmm, the quotes are not working this morning. Nor are the list etc. So, THoltz asked:

"do you know of this campground and if accessible by RV's?"

There are trailer pull through sites. So I suppose it depends on the size of the RV. Below is the info for the campground and the Pinedale number. They should be able to let you know if your size RV would be feasible.

Bridger-Teton National Forest - Pinedale Ranger District

Grizz,

I have stayed at the Little Creel RV resort several times. Rode the narrow guage and had lunch on the mountain.

Scariest part was the bus ride back. Reported the driver when we got back before he killed a bus load of folks.

But folks should ride the narrow guage at least once in their life.

When in Chama, we stay at Sky Mountain Resort RV Park. It's very quiet and friendly. It's located just south of the Chama limits.

The Cumbres and Totec Narrow Gauge Scenic Railroad is well worth riding and the all-you-eat lunch is excellent.

have to agree with you. we stayed in the park close to the station, can't remember the name. when we were there the had just open the line and most of the people in the park were volunteers working on the train and lines. it was fun talking to them and they were nuts about trains. the ride and lunch were well worth it.

i also love the north coast of california. lot of campgrounds along the area. especially from fort bragg north.

My favorite RV park is just about anywhere in the Rocky Mountains - but to name a few specific ones:
Colter Bay RV, Grand Teton National Park - North of Jackson, Wy.
Priest Gulch RV Park, South of Rico, Co. on the San Juan Skyway
Sugar Loafin' Campground, Leadville, Co.
Johnson's Of St. Mary, St. Mary, Montana - East side of Glacier National Park

I'm with Grizzley. I like Chama and Southfork. I also like it up around Gunnison, Co. along the taylor river. Good fishing. Gunnison does not have a very good Wal-Mart. for my wife.
