Maryhill State Park, on the Columbia, on the Washington side. River traffic, wide open camp spots, steady train traffic, and a grade up out of the valley. New laws have quieted down the interstate OTR rigs, but SR 97 sees a lot of hay shakers and container haulers. Unmuffled Jake coming down a long grade, mmmm, music... .

Lots to do on both sides of the river. Can follow parts of the Oregon Trail right down to the John Day River.

I think we were in that state park for four days about eight years ago. If it is the same one we enjoyed watching the wind-surfers. From there we went on west to the coast. Great trip that year. Diesel was a lot cheaper back then'

Crazy Horse:

Thanks for sending the map. I remember that area well. About 20 years ago we were through that area headed west and blew an engine just before getting into Browning, Mt. We had a Chev. suburban, Diesel. I new it was on it's last legs so I bought a gal. of oil and headed for Kalispell and stayed in the campground on the right just as you get in-to town. There was a stuffed Buffalo in a glass cage at the entrance. The next morning I took the suburban to the Chev. dealer and they got a rebuilt one from Spokane, Wash. I was back on the road in four days and $4000. 00 later. I was towing a 35ft Avion trailer. Should have traded but it wasn't long after that we got our first

5th wheel. We have some good and not so good memories of our travels.

The elk

Bignasty:

I didn't see an Elk in the picture. You must have had him on the dinner table already. I would also like to know the city or town near medicine lake.

Bill

The elk is between the 2 pine trees in the for front of the pick in the middle of the pic. on the normal size pic you can see him well. My son took the pic and he was shaking more than I:-laf

Austin Lone Star was a great place to explore Austin just wish it had not been the coldest winter in 48 yrs! Nice people and a good weekend breakfast cheap. My favorite Texas campground is Marina Bay in Kemah, close to everything except the traffic but kind of pricey and a little far north if your staying the winter.

Diesel Rattle

KOA in Wisconsin Dells, Wi - owners and stafff are awesome and they cut us a deal every year because of multiple stays.

Dane county Parks in Madison, Wi area - $20. 00 a night with water and electric, plus access to lakes / rivers

Florida state parks - just because it's not in Wisconsin

We are leaving to head out to Colorado Springs and will be staying at Garden of the Gods camp ground June 11 through 19th for a Mobile Suites rally.

Is anyone out there going to that rally. The only thing you need is a Mobile Suite 5th Wheel

Bill

I stayed at Garden of Gods campground a few years back, we had a 32' travel trailer with no slides. It just barely fit in the slot, with the back against the fence and the tongue of the trailer in the road, and there was no room to park my truck. Friends who were staying with us in a small 5th wheel also had lots of trouble getting into their small slot. I don't think my present camper with one slide will fit there, so I won't be going back. RV's have gotten larger over the years and campgrounds haven't. Other than the small slots, it was a nice, well run place; plenty of things in the Campground and plenty in the surrounding area.

My favorite RV park is just about anywhere in the Rocky Mountains - but to name a few specific ones:

Colter Bay RV, Grand Teton National Park - North of Jackson, Wy.

Priest Gulch RV Park, South of Rico, Co. on the San Juan Skyway

Sugar Loafin' Campground, Leadville, Co.

Johnson's Of St. Mary, St. Mary, Montana - East side of Glacier National Park

I agree with TLane about the Rocky's.

I've been to almost every state in the union and in my opinion, there is no greater camping than anywhere in the Rocky Mountains, from Banff in BC to Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Granted other states have great mountains and camping, such as Northern California, Oregon and Washington. There are also great places in the South and the Eastern states, but in the spring and summer months the humidity and bugs will kill you.

I hope the sites are a lot bigger now because I have a 36 ft 5th wheel with 3 slides and a 20 ft dodge dooly. There are over a hundred of us meeting there for a rally.

I suggest you call the campground and verify that they have a place that can handle your rig. It's a little late to change plans, but I'd be concerned that you're going to have about 90 unhappy campers. Has the organizer of the event ever stayed at that campground?

NC BlueRidge Parkway viaduct built around the mountain. One of the dozen wonders. Close to Bear Den Campground.

not a lot of spaces for larger RVs or fifth wheels, but Jackson Meadow Reservoir campground is nice. Its in the high Sierras north of Truckee, CA. Great fishing, boat ramp, lots of tent spaces, awesome views, tons of trees, running water, flush toilets, bear boxes, picnic tables and fire pits at each tent space. Not very crowded, spaces spread out nicely.
