I am in process of getting my Bigfoot camper spiffed up, and was faced with a somewhat oxidized and chalky finish - it is a fiberglass gel-coat camper.

I did some reading and tried the "Big 2" products that everyone raves about - Gel Gloss and Protect-All. I was unimpressed with the performance of either, may be great for an already shiny finish but didn't do doodly for oxidation.

Went to Wally World and picked up a bottle of 3M Marine Fiberglass Restorer / Wax, on the advice of another TDR member. It works like a champ, takes some elbow grease but puts a nice shine back on the finish that is noticeably better than the other two. If I get around to it I will post a picture showing "test areas" of the three products side-by-side so you can see what I mean.

Thought some of you with fiberglass rigs might find the info useful...

Cfarlow,

No black streaks as my camper is a Bigfoot 2500, roof is all gel coat fiberglass. The new Trailer Life magazine had an article on detailing, they say that any of the spray-n-wipe waxes will remove black streaks with no sweat. I suspect this may be true only if you have the rig waxed already, but who knows?

Our moderator, Barry, is a real RV whiz and was recently reporting on some whiz-bang cleaner/rejuvenator, I bet he knows the cure for black streaks from the rubber roofs.

Interestingly, the Trailer Life article did not caution people about putting wax on over the decals - something that all the waxes seem to warn against.

Why don't you put wax on the decals? I must have missed this earlier. I gotta throw some wax at mine soon, this sounds like some info I may need before I get started.

Black streak remover

The black streak remover from Camping World does a pretty good job removing these streaks even on oxidized finishes. Comes in a spray bottle. Don't get it on paint though.
