filter cap revisited! make your choice known!!

Which computer/palm OBDII system would you get?

TBrennan,

Looks to me like pre and post are doable. I'm still thinking about the filter retainer. It lookin like the cap will locate, but not remove the filter itself.

I don't really care if it has ports or not. Since I don't need them, I will leave them plugged. If you are going to make them with different options, I would suggest make them all ported and have a choice of finishes. People that need the port will have it and the poeple that don't can leave it plugged.

That is exactly what I was thinking Jeff. A simple socket type pipe plug would eliminate a separate program and fit flush to the surface.

Well my 2 cents on it retaining the filter is this, don't do it. When I changed the fuel filter for the first time, the only big hassle was getting the stupid filter pryed away from the filter cap catches. Took longer than everything else combined! Is there some trick to this everyone else seems to know?

I can easily reach in with a pair of needle nosed pliers or such to get the filter out.

If you can design something that has a rotating "catch" or maybe one catch that is held in place with a machine screw into the cap bottom so it can be removed (freeing the filter) and reinstalled easily that would be great, but no big deal either way.

Pre and post ports would be nice... it would give the owner a choice of the two, or both. Retaining clip not needed IMO

looks like the anodized/ported is slightly ahead of non anodized/ported ... ... ... ... that should make it easy. I can make them all ported and anodize 2/3 of them for a buck or so more.

I should have a jpg of an initial design up in the next few days!

Remember every time you change the fuel filter you would have to remove the fuel pressure plumbing. I'm I correct? Wouldn't it twist up as you remove the cap?

Yes, but I won't be using the ports so I won't have a problem.

Cary,

I had already thought of that, and BGiles brought it to my attention as well. What I had in mind was using -AN instead of compression fittings. That is all we ever used on our race cars and they can be removed in a couple seconds without damage as long as "Mr Armstrong" doesn't torque them. A stainless braided -AN line would look better anyway:D

I could supply a line kit or that stuff can be purchased at any high performance store. Speedway Motors and Jegs both have online ordering as well.

keep in mind that this is very preliminary and scale/dimensions are numbers grabbed from my memory ... ... ... ... . this didn't turn out very well, I'll edit the pic tonight and repost it.

I'm going to make an assumtion here ... ... ... you know what happens when you do that, lol.

Anodized and ported seems to be leading the way, followed closely by natural aluminum and ported. Seeing as how ported is ahead in all finish choices, I'll port and plug all of them and let the user have the option. The guys wanting natural finish could have that too so they could do a bright polish for a couple dollars less.

Here is the assumption ... ... ... ... . I am assuming that everybody is just looking for color. Under that assumption, there is blue anodizing under the hood already and blue would seem to be the natural choice so it matched.

If I did blue anodize and machined a "C" after anodize to make it stand out in bright aluminum ... ... ... ... would y'all be into that?

I would like the blue anodizing and the machined in C afterwards! I had originally picked the natural finish as I did not want the red. So start another poll with blue as a choice!
