Scotty Air II or Mega Cannon?

Poll: Pre or Post Turbo Gauge

okay i've done a search and seem like everyone has something to say about K&N filters and others like AFE. Someone even told me that Cummins came out and said that K&N filters are not good for their motors. So for myself i want to start this poll to see what people lie since i already bought a K&N filter kit that eleminates the air box.

SIde not just noticed some people talking about cetain filters being to noisy is this true? Never heard of this problem of while driving it's being to loud, on the other hand i never owned a turbo diesel either ;)

please so i can either return it or give it a try

thanks

Paul G.

PS not looking for a racing truck just and great running everyday driver and not have to keep buying filters and just want a real good one that actually works!

see people with others marked please leave a comment on what you would recomend

how many people are running the K&N cold air style (cone filter) and are NOT having a problem?

people are making me leary about installing mine

Drop in stock box K&N works for me.

200k+ and it's been serviced twice.

My feeling is folks having problems with them aren't following the instructions.

If you like to peek at your filter all the time no drop in is going to work for you, you risk losing the edge seal. Just watch the filter minder, you can't tell how clogged the filter is by looking at it anyway.

I did a similar poll here a last year. Drop in stock and K&N were way ahead followed by BHAF. Other filters were way down the list in percentage of users who answered.

BHAF for me. Nothin' against K&N, I have it in the garage and even run it now and again for fun. It is a bit louder than my BHAF. I agree that with proper maintenance and installation, a k&n is a good filter. Too many people just toss 'em in and forget about them and have problems (some over or under oil them when they clean them or don't get a good seal upon installation.

In my case, "AFE cold air intake" means Scotty III (Ram Air III).

Cummins has a TSB out explicitly naming K&N as not being covered by warranty--I'll look for it at home and see if I can quote the particulars.

well those guess at Gomer's diesel inc in MT are awesome. I actually put the whole system in and boy you guys were not kidding very loud, to loud for me. SO i called them and told them what i felt and they said just take it off and send it back and they will give me my money back no questions asked and i was so happy with that i told him just to credit me my money and i'll take the AFE drop in filter. Great bunch of guys can't say enough about them, Moe the sales manager was super nice.

I guess i'm saying is thats real custmer service. thanks guys for your imput

I love my K&N in the Stock Box. Why is there no Voting Option for that one?

My K&N has been in my truck for over 80,000 miles and my last Silicon # was 3!

Properly set up, the K&N in the stock box is a winner IMO.

I run a bead of grease inside the receiving end of the box and bed the filter into it, and run another bead around the box flange where the 2 boxes mate together.

As for K&N's causing warranty problems I say Baloney! In the first place Cummins does not handle warranty claims on the Dodge Cummins. Dodge does. In the last year I have been in 3 Dodge Dealers which STILL SELL K&N stock box filters for our trucks!

AFE

Had the K&N drop in. Didn't like it. Filter minder, Ha that things a joke. Change over to the AFE and 12 vdc Atmo gauge.

Noise, well the AFE in my truck sound like it sucking everything out of the glove compartment. Noticeable yes, annoying no, but you must like the sound of a turbo winding up.

Ummmm

I'm running a AFE ProGuard 7 in my homemade stainless housing that's tied into the cowl duct and fender freshair opening. I am also using a baffle in the duct cowl to hold down turbo whine.

My still good Fleetguard BHAF is on the shop floor.

Scotty II with AFE and a K&N sitting on the shelf for change out/cleaning duties works fine for me, very good oil analyzing reports for about 200K [two rigs] ... :D
